I have been speaking to a fellow 1200 racer today who tells me that this Motul oil is the very est and his tuner guaranteed him another 3-4hp just by using this over normal mineral oil.
Certainly the reviews that I have read on the net are all good but I have heard these sorts of claims before, not to mention the cost ( which if it is as good as they claim I guess justifiable )
Has anyone had any experience with this oil?
Cheers
Dave

The Royal Purple race oils and Mobil 1, 0-40 will show an increase in HP too. Lowering the oil level in the sump by having a deep pan sump also makes power. Those oils are lighter than I would be prepared to run in something with a lot of valve spring.

Back in the L Series days of the yellow 1200, I went from a mineral oil to semi synthetic and picked up 7 rwhp. Change in viscosity also but much of the increase came from moving away from mineral oil. Any reputable brand should yield a good result - but I have to admit to being a Motul fanatic 👍
Cheers.

Mineral oil-based 5W-30 will also increase your HP -- at least in lower temperatures (short trips). On long highway trips where the oil get up to full temp you wont see as big an improvement over regular 10W-30 oil

Datsun approves of 5W-30 for a-series engine (see Engine Oil Specifications). Can the synthetic can be run even during summer?

Synthetic also lasts longer, while mineral oil breaks down after 5000 miles or so

The turbo A series on the dyno currently has mineral 20w50 mineral oil in it(penrite hpr30).

Ziggy is coming to play tomorrow, I'll buy some 0w40 full synthetic and do a back to back test and we'll post results. Probably Mobil 1, not sure where to by Motul in Ballarat.

Just photo copied a page from a book that talks about this some more. Dyno results with different oils etc. Hope it's readable.

Thanks Simon and everybody else for the feedback.
Wow, the Mobil 1 0W-40 really is way out in front!
How would that sort of oil run in an A series engine? ( this is for a race car)
I'll be really interested to see what, if any improvements are to be had by moving to this sort of oil.
Cheers
Dave

Just finished doing the test between two oils

HPR30 20w50 Mineral w Zinc additives. 124Kw and 202Nm
Mobil 1 0w40 full synthetic 127Kw and 205Nm

Both at 75c oil temp. It would have been better if the oil temps were up around 90c, but we were worried about running out of E85 waiting for the oil to get up there.

HPR30 is for older engines totally different viscosity flow rate
more suited to engines with older seals to prevent leaking as well
HPR 5 is closer @ 5w-40
