Just finished installing the turbo on my A12, yet im getting a negligible boost reading at all from it.

Turbo is spooling and pushing air, wastegate isnt stuck open. There's no exhaust or boost leaks that i can find.

About to check the timing and spark plugs, Anything else i should look at?

Look at your boost gauge - it may be defective. How does the engine run? Is it faster than before?

Basically the whole setup will be the issue, 1200's are so light it is hard to load the turbo up to make decent boost,Even Factory turbos really start making decent boost from third gear onwards because the lower gears preclude making good boost pressure.

Taller final drive, Throw a couple of passengers in the vehicle that should make a noticeable difference to how it feels.

Having built a 1200 Ute with a Z18 Turbo it needed a change from 4.1 to 3.7 diff ratio plus changing the input gears in the gearbox and then really did not make good boost till it had a couple of cement bags in the tray of the ute (25KG each)

That is why Nissan with the March Super Turbo used both a Supercharger and a Turbo to make it work.

So with a 1200 you need a really small frame turbo taller gearing and good tuning to get a decent result, Not something you can just knock together and bolt on and expect results, Sorry but them's the facts

Without wishing to start World War 3 my personal experience with turbos and 1200's ( albeit an A14) is vastly different from what Coxsteve is saying.
My setup started spooling up at around 2800 and was really coming on strong by 35-3700 and would go happily through to 7500.
This was actually with a 4.1 diff ratio and a 63A 5 speed and weight taken out of it, not put in.
Have you actually driven the car with this setup and are not simply reving it up in the garage?
Simon ( Sikyne ) would no doubt be able to give you some constructive ideas and things to check for but I certainly would not be heading off doing some of the extreme ideas suggested.
Good luck, I'm sure that you will get it sorted.
Cheers
Dave

Yes i'm with B110SSS in all that he said, mine is in a 1200 circuit car with a totally bog standard engine making reasonable h.p.First thing...put it on the dyno, this is a no brainer,it must be properly tuned. If you still have problems send Sikyne a pm and he may have some ideas.Cheers Rob

I probably shouldve mentioned that it's in a 120y 4d Sedan, so its heavier then a 1200.

I took the car for a drive this morning, it feels like im driving an n/a car, slower then the stock A12 with 1" exhaust if anything.

I'd love to put it on a dyno, but i simply cannot afford it at this point. And even if i could I'd still expect to be seeing something on the gauge regardless of how well it's running. I have also confirmed that the gauge works

I guess a big question is for your setup is?

Is it blow through or draw through?
what carb are you using?
are you using mechanical fuel pump?
have you changed the main jet and accelerator pump jet or drilled them out along with the float?
Do you have a raising fuel reg in place?

There are alot of variable's to consider if your not making boost or noticable boost until we know your setup?

Solex 32dis Blow through
Mechanical fuel pump has been replaced with a high pressure EFI pump and FPR.

Turbo is a td05-16g. Could the turbo be too big for the setup?

I have not changed the jets, however the car is running fairly rich as is.
I figured if it is boosting then it should be leaning out as rpm and boost increase, am i wrong in assuming so?

That's a fairly large turbo for an A12. It probably wont make good power until over 5K. It should make plenty after that!

How much total ignition timing has it got?

Its very important to make sure the regulator is doing what it should. Basically starting out at 3-5 Psi and then having it referenced to the inlet manifold to ensure the base 3-5Psi is always maintained above boost pressure.

Unfortunately, It will be nearly impossible to tune without the aid of a dyno. Fueling can be corrected on the road if you have access to a wideband air/fuel ratio meter, but monitoring fuel pressure at the same time will be very hard. It will be a very slow and tedious exercise aswell.
Ignition timing will be impossible to get right on the road. If this is too advanced, it will cost you an engine very quickly.

As far as it not making boost...I'd be checking for leaks. Ensure the blow off valve(if fitted)is plumbed properly and sealing. Check all clamps, hoses and flanges are air tight. On the Exhaust side, check manifold flange(to head) and turbine inlet flange. Also check that the waste gate actuator rod isn't binding, and the flap is being held shut with a little pre load(a couple of mm) of the actuator rod.

I'll keep thinking, and if something else comes to mind i'll let you know.
