Recognize this 5 speed transmission

Came across a local ad that posted this transmission. It came out of a 510 vehicle with a L20 motor. There is a stamp on the top of the housing and on the side (L1). Anyone know what transmission series this would be?

That looks like a 71-series Transmission

Not much use then with the A series engine? Is this a common gearbox?

Probably Nissan's most common RWD gearbox, used from 1975-1985. It fits the L-series engines (L16/L18/L20B), so not much use for an A-series engine. Although you could weld the front section of an A gearbox to it (see Cut-n-shut)
