So I have been browsing the forum and Tech Wiki for about a year since I bought my 1200 Ute and I would like to say thank you to all the creators and posters that have helped me solve multiple issues ranging from shifter bushings to preparations for a CA18DET swap. You guys are awesome! Below are some pics of the Ute as well as the strictly cosmetic modifications I have made so far; feel free to say good or bad to any of the modifications! Thanks! This is actually just a trial one that I made out of cheap rose wood to see if I liked it or not; since I actually use it to haul stuff around all the time, I didn't want to make it out of expensive wood yet. When I eventually get back to the USA I will make one out of nice oak or some other hard wood - wood is really expensive here in Japan.

no issues with legality for ca18 conversion?

I'm in Yokosuka (an hour South East of Tokyo). I haven't done the CA18 conversion yet, I am going to wait until I get back to the U.S. where they don't care about such things nearly as much . I picked a couple of CA18DET's, a couple of turbos and an S13 5 speed tranny up from here that I am shipping back with me. After looking at how much paperwork I needed to do to make it legal here I decided it was better just to wait. Depending on where I end up in the U.S., most places could care less what engine you have in your car

just dont end up in cali for emissions testing :)

Cali doesn't care what engine you have in your 1971-1973 Datsun automobile ... but if it's a 1975 they do. CA18DET is fine when outfitted as original or with certified parts

I love the door panel with the wave on it. No so keen on the mountain side, but realize they are a set (I once had a calendar with those same scenes on them)

D: I lived in Cali for 8 years and had to deal with their regulations, never again! That's one of the things I love about Alabama, they don't care as long as the safety equipment works.

ddgonzal: Yeah, I like the wave painting better as well ... After seeing how much work it took for my wife to paint the "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" on that one, I picked an easier one for the other side :).
