S1 Sequential makes a really nice kit for the Tremec T56 but I would like to see if our community could come up with a similar idea for the Datsun.

This would be a very fun item to DIY

After a crack at the cross flow head BTW.

I gave thought to this many years ago because as I motorcycle guy / racer first I've always thought H pattern gearboxes are an abomination (no strong opinion there)

So here is my deal on sequential boxes; with the motorcycle powered sports racer once I left the pits I'd go up and down the box with out using the clutch. This naturally allowed me to left foot brake. While I'm capable expecting flawless heel and toe downshifts I don't get any big thrill out of it in and of itself.

On the surface it seems simple enough to come up with a shift drum mounted externally to move the shift lever but what do we gain from it........ Besides the cool factor of course.

One possible thing I can think of is paddle shifters making it easier to keep hands on the wheel while shifting.

Paddle shift kits would be a hoot.

My MR-S has a steering wheel shifts, its a hoot but
the setup is very complicated if something goes wrong.
There are hydraulic pumps, solenoids, ecu and hoses
that run this system and motorbikes are mechanically
operated which is infinitely better simpler etc.


Years ago I wondered if one could use the strong drag
harley davidson aftermarket boxes onto an A series
they are cheap and stronger than some japanese boxes

140 ci or 2.3L twin has a fair bit of torque!

torque rating is the key element and 2.3L
would have more torque than any A series.

D motor cycle style shift drums are very simple, you wouldn't need anything more than a control cable.

Exactly, you could mount your shifter almost anywhere.

The Ultima website rates the 140ci v twin at 175lbs!

I wonder if someone knows something about these boxes
they are cheap at 6-700usd on ebay, gearset replacements at 500usd

2kw starter could be used from ultima
just needs an adaptor for an A series auto bellhousing
flange for the prop and clutch spline and input shaft considerations etc

The whole cost could be easier than sourcing and rebuilding old T50 toy boxes
buying a kit for them and fitting them only to have a H pattern.

No Reverse..... :(

There are plenty of reverse kits but was told by an electric engineer
starter motors are DC and easily to setup for reversible rotation
using a switch that can be setup using first gear.

These are available but I would prefer a high torque starter
with a relay which is cheaper to reco every few years if need be
than to pay 3 times the price of the box they run

Yep I think starter motor is the way, very cheap which is the aim
of datsun folks so a harley 6 speed, auto A series bellhousing
connected via adapter plate, clutch and imput shaft spigot change.
