The big Nissan M582 truck ... with diezel no less

... before that there were little Datsun trucks. The 320 is virtually the same size as the B120 long body but due to the Datsun Truck line's full frame, it could haul 1000kg payload and the Sunny Truck only 500kg

... and before that the Datsun Truck line had 15hp and was smaller than a Sunny Truck...

very true but these were more popular than the smaller trucks
and in some ways more nissan than austin based

You got that right. Nissan trucks were so successful that Nissan became the 4th largest combine in Japan circa 1940. Even though the Datsun line was first (1932), it seems that Nissan trucks built the company

engines for these trucks were well known to be over engineered vs toyota ones
