Hi All,

I've been keeping an eye out for set of used twin Dellortos for my a12. There are a few about but prices do vary quite a bit. Just wanted to get some opinions on how much I should expect to pay (AUD) for a good used set with a manifold.

unless you can tune your own its about 2.5-3k aud finished
or 2k at least in parts these days.
Bike carbs if you can get a manifold made can cost 500aud
then tune at your local bike shop.

A quick Google Search finds a reconditioned set complete with manifolds, filters and linkages for 1500?? Are you saying that you can spend up to 1k in tuning costs on top?

Google, got a link? Thats a good price as
the linkage kit, manifold, filters, filter box,
correct velocity stacks and venturi sizing
to suit the right setup all costs time & money.
In Straya very possible to spend more money
that its costs for tuning carbs these days.
ITBs from bikes is another option just more
than bike carbs but mj ecu has its benefits.

This was a bargain considering time and costs

Four years ago I did extensive dyno testing and built up several sets of twin Dellortos. My baseline was my longtime set of 45 Weber DCOEs. [I run high RPMs, so I use bigger chokes in all of these.]

When I was all done, the 45 Webers with 40 chokes; 45 Dellortos with 40 or 41 chokes and the 48 Dellortos with 40 or 41 chokes all gave me about the same results. [I learn the hard way. I should have spent my time on something else.]

For Sale:
1) I have a pair of new (rebuilt) 48 Dellorto DHLA. Carbs were bought from Italy as 45 DHLA that the Italian company bores out to fit 48 parts. I have several thousands of US dollars in the pair. (about $2500 USD for 2 DHLAs). I will sell them complete with the jetting just as they came off the engine in dyno tuning. They were only run on the track in test days after dyno testing. $1000 USD plus shipping.

2) I have a different pair of very good 45 DHLA Dellortos. These I dyno tested and raced for several seasons. Complete as they came off of the engine. $1000 plus shipping.

Now, for the bargain hunter, ...... I have (2) original 48 DHLA carb bodies that were used and running, great carburetors until ..... Someone tightened them too tight on the manifold and CRACKED the mounting flanges. At that time they were the only carburetors for that car/engine, so some 3mm thick aluminum plates were fashioned as braces and then drilled, tapped and attached to these "cracked" 48 DHLA carbs, fixing them. We raced with them and they worked good. But later they were disassembled and now sit on the shelf. PLUS I will include (2) more UN CRACKED 45 DHLA bodies as donors if you want a prettier finished carb setup. So: (2) repaired 48 DHLA bodies; plus (2) 45 DHLA bodies; and all of the DHLA parts, jets, throttle shafts, plates, etc to put (2) carburetors back together. $500 plus shipping.

Hey d. Here is the link. https://www.recarb.com.au/twin-40-dhla ... un-1200-120y-a10-a12.html
Pjz.
What sort of engine setup were you running with the carbs you have? I'm only looking at rebuilding my a12 with standard internals and from what I've read 40 DHLAs are suited best??

I ran 34 & 36 mm bike carbs cammed and stock with higher comp
(best A12 cam I recommend is stock otherwise its like lag)
Tries various cams from gx grinds and up but love stock, comp
and big bores with good ignition, headers and heavy flywheel
for the road, its a pleasure to have the torque at all rpms.
Late Vanette flywheel on late A12 engine was like driving
a vw beetle but with more everywhere especially take off hills etc.
I would do it again with bike carbs for these capacities
for the road but for something L series or larger the 45/48 PJZ
has for sale on offer would be my choices.
Also these are very neat itbs just in case

My 1300cc engines (using the 45 or 48 Dellortos and/or the 45 Webers) are 9800 rpm engines, 15:1 compression, 0.650" lift at the valve using either 1.60 or 1.65 roller rockers, camshafts built on blanks (when I can find them) with banana shaped opening ramps, Carillo or other H-beam rods, billet crankshafts. We use 10mm or 3/8" rocker tower studs and make our own steel rocker towers. Each tower is built for that engine, so to maximize the rocker ratio. Titanium valves are 7mm stems. Valve train is "little" beehive valve springs and Titanium retainers about 25mm diameter.
