Nope ,I heard that they stopped production because they were deadly if you were rear ended ( the fuel tank ruptured ??)

first car i ever owned was a Fait 131R which I got for $1400 because it was running on 3 cylinders (still had wof and reg) and the first parts I brought was oil oil-filter plugs dizzy roter, points and fuel filter, towed it home serviced it and it ran like a dream, not bad for a 15 year old. Keeped that car of 1 1/2 years and sold it for $2500. I did everything (car related ) for the first time in that car, first skid, first ticket etc and even though this is a datto site im not ashamed to say the 131 will always remain special to me.

Not that I recall.

The real reason they stopped production is that sales dropped and that the car received a bad reputation. The huge flaw in the car was the handling -- it had volkswagen-style rear engine and swing arm suspension, and could flip under some conditions. Anyways, GM fixed all that, made the Corvair near-perfect, but people were still leary of it. They even had turbocharged versions!

Any automotive enthusiast should enjoy reading the book that caused the Corvair controversy - Unsafe at any speed by Ralph Nader. I enjoyed especially the sections about Pontiac and John Delorian -- there was a guy with some great ideas, who apparently was bogged down by GM infighting.

I adopted my old mans XC Ford ute. I think he bought all the parts to keep it going, first accessories I bought were JVC head unit (old school now days) and Clarion speakers. But first hard parts were 350cfm Holley (brand spankers) and Redline manifold to suit the 250 X-flow. Went like snot once the Holley opened up, drove like poo any other time. Ended up ditching the Holley for a Weber. Much better performance all round, never looked back, not a Holley fan anymore.
