I'm thimking of upgrading my rims which are 13's to 14's. I'm hearing a lot of negative and positive responces. Some people are telling me that the car will take longer to take off, the size upgrade will put strain on the diff and eventually the gearbox. So i taught i'd ask you guys whats your opinion and experience. what i would like to know is:

1) will upgrading from 13 inch rims to 14inch rims increase my gas millage?

2) Will the size upgrade put strain on both the differential and gearbox ( I'm running a 4 speed).

Your fuel useage shouldn't change very much because if you change to a larger size rim you will need to put a lower profile tyre on to keep the rolling diameter of the wheel as close as possible to original so your speedo still reads correct,As for damaging the diff and gearbox it will only wear a little faster than normal ,unless you fit huge wide rims then of course it will wear quicker.Example I have 12" rims on mine and I just took 15" rims off ,and the height difference in the overall wheel with tyre fitted was the 15" wheel was 15mm taller than the 12" wheel .But that came down to tyre profile the 12" wheel has 155-80-12 tyre and the 15" wheel has 195-50-15 tyre .Hope this helps
