For those who are not in on the joke, the Joseph Lucas company had a small round medalion on most of the lights that the company produced, right from the early days in the teens, up untill the fifties or so. It has a symbol in the middle of, from memory, a flaming torch, you know, like an Olympic torch. Around the edge it had the words "Juseph Lucas. King of the road.
Unfortunately Lucas reliability was not legendary, it wasn't even mediocre, & breakdowns were not uncommon, leaving one in the dark, so the "King of the road" became the "Prince of Darkness"
Some of the Lucas designs had well & truly outworn their usefullness, but the last thing that the company would do would be to revise & improve the product. It defeats me how they have remained in business for so long, & they have been the butt of industry derision & jokes for many decades.
