Jaime - this fire situation is nearly one of the worst ever.every other 20 years, it is fine.
Arsonists have been responsible for an estimated 95% of these fires.
As for the part about the bush regrowth, give it 6 months, and you would barely know a fire had been there. There is already regrowth in the bush near my house... The aussie
bush NEEDS fire to keep alive (sounds strange) , lots of the plants require fire to open seed pods.
So even though it is particularly bad at this time, Australia is still pretty damn good!
As for the bit about Aussies being excellent - DAMN STRAIGHT!~

Cheers, Linc

Ps thanks USA for the water choppers - they are awesome, who would think they are powered by A series?!?

If eucalypts didn't want to burn in bush fires then why would they have sap which is flammable.
I feel for peopple who have lost possesions and stuff but if I live in the bush as I did, I expect the occasional fire just as I would expect to be stung or bitten
in an ocean.

Humans have stuffed nature enough and yet we still complain when it takes some of its anger out on us.

Hy Lump and charcoal,I guess by your name, you must like fires! (just kidding). Good to know fires are needed for maintenance and recycle of the enviroment, that is absolutely true,a small
fire burns grasses and bushes, and the eucalyptus and other native trees have such a strong bark that fire only blackens the outside, the inner core remains alive. My concern is with this kind
of out of control mean fire. Arsonists caused it and I hope those clowns get caught.Life confinement in antartica, with videos of 1200 datsuns all tricked out so they will drool to death! No
freedom and no datsuns for those fishbrain idiots.
As for the australians being excelent people, that seems true, all of you guys are good friends and also my brother, who goes surfing Australia a lot(also Bali,Java) is told me that how
friendly and cool people you are. Soon I will go over there to surf and probably I will get myself my dream car,a Datsun with right hand drive, since everybody here drives lefthanddrive
cars, right hand drive is the way to stand away from the masses, and if the vehicle is a Datsun, what else could I ask for?

Cheers my friends!

Arsonist's evil work can not be considered as nature taking some of its anger out on us. A wildfire that was started from
lightning is nature.

Ok you've just about convinced me as I
Have a lexus V8 Block and Heads sitting in
my garage next to my 1200 .Was saving it for
a 32 ford roadster or model A but I don't
have one of those yet and I do have a 1200..
h'mm the posibilities .. and it would fit
nicely next to the IS-300 sitting in my
driveway (my wifes car) I also have a 3.0l
straight six the I thought about putting in
something..

I would go the V8 Lexus (I hate calling it Toyota!). I am assuming the one you have is not the same as the Lexus Sc400 motor?
The SC400 motors have six-bolt mains! YES thats right six bolt, you cant ask for a more bullet proof bottom end, it also has a webed block.
They are also easy to supercharge, just ask some of our Aussie work shops.
Its a pity the IS-300 only comes out in auto! Some people (with the appropritae dosh) have just turbo'd the IS-200 motor, not bad, eh?
Why not have the best of both worlds with a V8 note, and the lovely PSSSSHHTT of a blow off valve, and the style and grace of a 1200? Ahh, the possibilitys if we
were all millionares!

If you read the latest copy of ZOOM mag you will notice a Volvo with a rather cool VG30DET transplant. This was done under $4000. Yet it still produces a healthy 170kw at
the rear treads.
This might also be cheaper than the V8 Lexus motor and also less weight to carry around which you would want in the front of a 1200.
The thing you are looking for in a tow car is low down torque.
Any thing you desire can be done for a price, like the dude who put a SR20DET in an RX7 sports sedan, simply because the rule book said it was difficult to run a turbo
rotor.

In 1999 we came close to bushfires. I remember siiting out the front of my old mans place (sipping a coldy) and saying look at that wisp of smoke over the road. Then a few hours later it
wasnt just a wisp. Dad called the firies and they said it was under control. That fire burnt a lot of bush and jumped a highway. This was just the result of someone not putting out a
backburn (or campfire, cant remember which one). It burnt up our valley and came to our neighbours backyard across the road. We got prepared, filling the gutters and hosing everything down
and luckily it didnt make it across the road.
Fair enough, if you look now you wouldnt know that a rageing inferno came through but there are idiots out there that think this is fun.
What is fun about battling life threating fires lit by some moron?

Simon

PS. On the news we see houses being threatend by fire yet the defiant owner stays to protect his proerty (which is the right thing) BUT why does he wear shorts and not t-shirt?? What a
dickhead. The heat generated by one of these fires will burn his skin like a roast chicken. Surely someone would have the sense to wear full clothing, such as jeans and a low famable jumper?
