Thanks for your comments, Boltman. You forgot about the real difference between the Sedan and the Coupe. The seats in the Sedan were much more comfortable. I have spent weeks at a time in my sedan on the road and never felt tired out or beat up. The coupe seats are thinner and the metal framework gets pertty uncomfortable on long trips. I drove at least 10 round trips from East Tennessee to the San Francisco Bay area in my sedan and it never made me hurt or have sore spots. I can not say the same for the coupe seats. When I bought my first Datsun in 1972, I had a 1965 Pontiac GTO with 6.5 liter 389 CI motor with three duces. It had comfortable seats and I thought nothing of getting out of the GTO and into the 1200. It was like having a comfortable little go-cart that didn't like gas stations as a toy. Mareo

The 4 dr sedans have vents behind the back door. The inside panel is blocked off, I expect Datsun planned to put interior lights at the top of the inner panel and maybe put a vent in the hole. Instead the air vents from the kick panels in the front footwells up the front window sills into the cars roof, and down the back window sills and out the vents. It also allows excess boot smells to escape out. Chris

First of all let me say welcome back Boltman. Tens-and-twenties & I were talking the other day about you and how you hadn't posted in a while. Now as for my reply, initially I was pissed off at what you had to say about my beloved coupe or fastback. I have several of them and except for the ones with accident damage, all of the plastic grills are perfectly straight. As for the stainless grill, I think it looks too conservative and stodgy. Too "510" if you will. (Flame away, I can take it.) The "510ness" is also a reason to dislike the "camel back" look of the sedan, in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike 510s, they just aren't for me. I do have to agree with the cowl vent and door panel issue though. I remove all of my cowl scoops. The funky blue trim on the door panels has always been an eyesore too. What really annoyed me was the structural rigidity argument. Mostly because you are probably right. I can't say for sure because I've never suffered, I mean experienced owning a sedan. As for the seats, after thirty years it doesn't really matter which seats were more comfortable, I'm replacing them. Thirty years of smoke, mildew, "butt funk" and who knows what else makes for an odd odor in a Datsun. Not to mention, they are probably worn out and gave no lateral support to begin with. Well, I guess I have given vent to my feelings. I'll shut up now and let Datsuns be Datsuns. Tim

I will like to say a few words. In my opinion and being a datsun fan,I like both of them equally, both are diffewrent and individual, and both are likeable.I like the sedan because it looks like a little toy car,and if some work is added to the powerplant ,you well know what ,at least I know I like about these cars, big power, hearth of a Lion inside the toy car. The coupe is also excelent, lower stance, lower roof, hatch sloping, making it sleek and sporty, and there is also the pick up truck,or ute, excelent vehicle,if you have a taste for Datsuns, you can certainly appreciate them, and last but not least,a discovery my brother has made,he is purchased a station wagon(estate) 1200 Datsun. I like them all and wish I could have them all parked in my own living room. There is no one better, they are all individually different and good. Jaime.

30 years of "Butt Funk'??!! LOL. You're too much, Dimlight. But you're right, it doesnt matter which seats are more comfy, because I ve refurbished my seats with top of the line cloth seat covers with 2 inch foam rubber cutouts under the seatcovers. Makes them as comfy as the best of them. Also, my heater motor isnt currently hooked up, but I ve noticed the scoops pick up a lot of air when the car is moving whether or not the heater blower motor is on.Its true that the scoops look like an afterthought if they're the same color as the rest of the car, but I painted mine semi-gloss black. I like them. It gives the car a hot roddish look. I think the side vents are one of the most recogn- izable characteristics of the coupe without them, the coupe would look roo plain from a distance. Dont want to start an argument here, just wanted to put in my 2 cents worth. And lastly, my plastic grill looks pretty straight too. Steve

Fistly, all Dattos are cool except for some eg. 120Y. I have to agree with Steve. My coupe was painted GT-R grey and I decided to highlight the scoops front and side by painting them silver. Everyone comented on how cool it looked. I would do the same on my next coupe too. Also when I ordered my new grill it happened to be the correct colour, silver with grey mesh bits. They dont look cheap and nasty to me. Before I found I could order a new one I searched the wrecking yards, and every time they pointed out a sedan grill I just went ISSSHH. No thanks. After seeing AGR-012's 1200 sedan in the flesh I have to say I have nothing against sedans (modified ones) but they do look a little "grandmar style" to me if they dont have mags or something. Whereas coupes just look sporty and allround cool. I think we all know that 1200's kick ass no matter what style you drive, and that beauty is in the eye of the beholder (and those around them). We are all entitled to our own opinion. Simon

Hello 1200 freaks, I'm still rolling on the floor over "30 years of "Butt Funk'! Yeah, the mention of factory seats is pretty much mute after 30 years. For my electric soundoff car Blue Meanie, I was lucky and found a wrecked Soob wagon with just 1500 miles on the clock that had 'as new' grey cloth seats that I scooped up in a hurry. These seats are shaped similar to the factory 1200 seats, but are far more supportive and look vaguely Recaro-like. I had the Soob rear seat cover fitted to the 1200 rear seat frame. With cutom door panels covered in grey cloth with violet vinyl insert, matching rear quarter panel covers, and salt & peper style grey carpet that also covers the kick panels, the Soob seats blend in nicely, and are still in mint condition today. A trio of MB Quart separates are also mounted in each door, and they have custom painted grills that blend in well with the interior scheme. For those who may not have seen Blue Meanie, it can be checked out at: < http://www.austinev.org/evalbum/036.html> I guess I should add some pictures of the interior to this page.... See Ya.......John Wayland

I do not like to get in silly fights because once fired, they get dificult to stop, but this guy who is saying that 120 y are not cool beeter shut up,you better respect others point of view and accept others tastes or else we all are some kind off shit. You say also that sedans look grandmarish cars,I know a lot of people who think all 1200 look girly ,and I do not give a shit about what idiots think. You are entitled to your own tastes, but if you are going to go around creating bad feelings and discord you are going to create yourself formidable enemies. This is suposed to be a 1200 club,or do youi plan to create your own COUPE 1200,and a SEDAN1200, and a PICK UP 1200 etc. Wake up!
