dodgeman,i finally checked the wagon at rushes,it says hb on the build plate, but is probably a 3.889:1 ratio, cause the a14 is still in it.the 4 speed's sitting on the ground next to it,also.as for the spacer to put a h150 into a h145 housing, the pitroad website shows such a creature in the diff section,so it must be necessary.the kit looks like 2 diff gaskets & a shim the same shape as the gaskets.i've got one or two more places i can check for late sunny wagons,so i'll keep you 'posted'.paul.

I'm digging up an old post here...
Anyways, I just picked up an HA38 ( h150 3.889:1) rear end from an 82 210 A12A MT.
I'll try and measure and take some comparison pics. I, too, am hoping the center will just drop into my H145 sedan rear.

Thought they had H165 or H165B. The H190 axles I have look the same as B/B (ie H165B). I am betting that all the 165 centres (B/B, C20 and maybe ute) will all interchange. H190 has more bolts (9??) and therefore will be the odd one out. Dodgeman or Feral will correct me here but I think I'm pretty close to the mark.
Cheers
P.S I am planning to put the C20 housing in the race car and use both the 4.8:1 C20 centre and the Bluebird 3.9:1 and if I find one, a 4.1:1 ute centre.

o ok sweet... yeh its longer then the ute diff im pretty sure... i'll have a look tomoro tho.. if its not.. that will make for a but diff.... with bigger brakes! and i'd use the bluebird struts to!....
im stilll not 100% clear on how to modify the struts to fit a 1200 ute.. if its just the springs that have to be lowered and the shocks... i'll use the disks... that will be beautiful coz there quite big.
so can Any body, please explain to me EXACTLY what i have to do to get series 3 bluebird struts under my ute?.
cheers woodydat.

All of the 1200 utes that i have seen have the H165 diff.
As far as Bluebirds go, i have a parts book that covers series 1 & 2 only, so i can't be sure about series 3's.
The series 1 & 2 wagon, when equiped with the four speed manual, used a H190 diff, & this will not bolt into a housing designed for the H165.
Series 3 is most likely the same, but as i said, i don't know 100% for sure.
Feral is really the man with the good oil.

woodydat,
yes I think the centres may interchange, but the overall width of the housing (drum to drum) will be bigger by about 90mm (or thereabouts) Therefore your Bluebird housing will not only be too wide without flares, the spring platforms will be too wide apart. You would have to get them relocated to match the narrower spring width. Not impossible but not a 5 minute job either! As for the bluebird struts, the spring platforms have to be removed and 1200/stanza ones welded on. Also might be an issue with bottom arms and ball joint angles but other posts have covered this in the past I think. Much easier solution is to use stanza struts and have no drama - you get the same brakes without the headaches! Not claiming to be an expert here but bolting up is easier than cutting up! Good luck.
Cheers
P.S. Before I get chastised - the H190 has 10 bolts, couldn't remember at the time

Hello Dodgeman,
sorry if my info seems misleading, but I have a 5 speed b/b wagon in the shed that I'm pulling apart and it has an 8 bolt H165(b) ?? diff with a 35/9 centre. The alloy centre H190 I got out of an urvan has 10 bolts but appears to use the same size and spline axles as the H165. I defer to those of you with greater knowledge - especially you and feral - but this is what I have in my possession at present. Don't want to confuse anyone but am I right or missing something obvious ??
Cheers
