Same in America, nzdatman. I have never seen a close ratio 4-speed or 5-speed on the street
in a Datsun.

I've used both shift pattern 5spds in my Sedan. The only problem is the reverse switch doesnt clear the trans mount in the trans tunnel. So no reverse lights. Oh, well. I use a 1/
4 thick plate with urathane spacers as a trans mount.
If im not mistaken the gear ratios are almost the same, except 3rd is closer to second on the dogleg.
The only question I have with this set up is whether the super stiff(solid) trans mount and the soft stock engine mounts are causing the trans to twist or flex? Not alot of flexing, but
maybe just enough to cause it to wear and fail sooner.

The small amout of movement from your fabricared mount probably will not cause any malfunction to yout tranny but will transfer vibration to the body. I feel the engine vibration a lot
with the dogleg trans but the extra gas milage is worth the vibration. I can get up to 65 MPG. I have an A14 from a 1981 210 that I shaved the head a bit to up the compression a little.
I use 185 60 14 tires on the rear and it will top out at around 125 MPH. It is an excellent combination except for the vibration.

I have at the moment 3 types of 5 speeds and they're all different.1 type has the original 1200 type 56a casing with dogleg configuration & close ratio,I believe it is a option 1 close ratio
box that was used for racing. The 2nd type is a bigger casing type 60a they used in sunny's and has normal shift pattern as you display, also 5th is overdrive. The 3rd type is the same 60a
casing & shift but the ratios in both 4th & 5th gear are both overdriven(I'd say somebody had them changed!)and it is dogleg shift pattern! They all bolt up using the 1200 flywheel & clutch/
presuure plate.
