I've thought about making my own 2mm or 3mm shims. It should not be too hard to make one, just a bit time consuming. Good point about adding the thickness of the gaskets if you are not going to use them.

Hey woodydat,
sorry to hear that they won't interchange but at least you have H190 to sell! Typical luck for me though, thought I might get a decent ratio out of this wagon but got a dud instead. Dodgeman says it should have a H190 and I got a "ring in" H165. Do you know what ratio it is ? Might be interested if you mant to offload it. Sorry for any confusion!!
Cheers

What version of Bluebird have you got as a donor?
According to my book, the wagon that came with the four speed had the H190 diff, while everything else had the H165.
Perhaps you and Woody should swap diffs.

P.S. My parts book says that the H190 that was used in series 1 & 2 Bluebird wagons is 3.889 to 1 ratio.

Most of the H165 diffs that were used in all the other Bluebird variants used a 3.9 to 1 ratio, EXCEPT, for the four speed sedan, which used a H165 with a 3.7 to 1 ratio

Since your wagon is a series 3, i can't help much as do not have the book on that model, so i don't know what it was supposed to have. I can only quote the series 1 & 2 info. Sorry

I already have the 5 speed tranny. so the 3.54 gear ratio would give me higher top speed. I think the car will go perhaps 100 mph. I'll have to use the gps to keep an eye on how fast it goes (putting in a tach would be good too...).

Hi Dodgeman,
not sure what series (or year) without going home to check but it is a 5 speed wagon with L20. As with most cars at this age it is sometimes a lottery as to it's originality. Sometimes anything that will bolt in is used to get a car back on the road - or if there is something worth having, buy the car and swap a lesser component in, then resell for a "no cost" part.
Anyway, it will all work out as I have a 4.8:1 C20 diff & housing to modify for my current car and the B/B H165 centre will provide a 3.9:1 alternative. I also have a H190 assembly with alloy centre (4.6:1 ??) and a steel 4.1:1 steel centre for the next race car - so I should be ok. Also have another 3.9:1 assembly from a B/B sedan if Woodydat wants a different ratio for the ute.
Cheers
