Nice pics andy. Is that a new bumper since you've come to Japan? If so is it from Nissan or a repro?

I had that bumper on there before I left the US. My dad gave it to me for a birthday present. I think he found it on the internet somewhere, but it was new when he gave it to me. It's actually a pretty cheap repro, the chrome is REALLY thin and it rusts easy. So, I took it off the car and brought it inside. I'm going to strip off the surface rust on the inside and paint it, and then when I get back to the US I'm gonna have it like triple chrome plated!

So after I posted those pics, I went back to the auto hobby shop and did some more work. I figured out exactly how the fuel system is going to work and where it'll all get mounted. I'll be using a Holley Red electric pump mounted on the frame rail behind the right rear tire to put gas into the surge tank inside where the fuel evaporator tank used to be. Then just below that (gravity feed) I'll mount the EFI Walbro pump with a Z32 fuel filter in front of it, and then I've got to mount new 5/16" fuel line from back to front twice for the return line as well. Keep in mind you're going to need just about 12 feet for each line, so 24-25 ft total minimum, and don't forget to use EFI specific fuel line and clamps, standard fuel line won't hold up to the pressure!!!

After playing around with all that I put the car back on the lift and bolted the transmission to the engine. This required a cherry picker (engine hoist) hold the engine up, with the car jacked way up too so I could fit the transmission jack under the car, and also unbolting the engine mounts. Bolting the tranny/engine together wasn't too hard at all, but then again I didn't have a clutch or flywheel on yet either. Once bolted together I angled the engine back to where it should be, but there was interference in the transmission tunnel and the firewall!! This was because I haven't cut a hole yet for the SR20 shifter which sits further back where the tunnel gets a lot smaller. So, I cut out the metal inside the car, which ended up being a bit. Also had to bang/bend the tunnel just a little on the sides, no big deal. I need to trim a little more, but it looks pretty good so far. I turned the bottom metal piece on the SR tranny mount around backwards to line up better with the meat of the metal on the floor. It looks like I will have to use a couple spacers under the mount to raise the transmission up a little more, also no big deal. Once I trimmed the shifter hole, even though it still needs more trimming, I was able to get the engine back on it's mounts and bolted down, then I ran out of time and they closed. Good news is the transmission is now in the car! Now just need to drill holes for the mounts and look at welding or bolting a support piece inside the car to help spread the weight load for the tranny mounts to go into.

I'm trying to get that H165 that 2332 showed me. As soon as I have one I can get the driveshaft length figured out and send the flange/yoke/measurements off to a driveshaft place in the US to get made up.

My intake manifold and water outlet is also complete and should get back to me sometime next week maybe. I'll post pictures as soon as it all arrives, should be awesome to see, fully polished with a 90mm Q45 Throttle Body on it!!! Other than that, I'm just trying to scrounge up all the little things such as fuel lines, intercooler piping/connectors, and exhaust piping. Also need to start telling people to quit scrounging stuff off my donor car 180SX!! A friend of mine pulled off the carbon/vaccuum canister and didn't tell me...not cool!! Anyways, until tomorrow....see ya!

Hi Andy its looking great.I bet it will be fun once its going. Takes a while to get all the little bits and pieces
Im unsure if I asked you before is the radiator from a S13 sr20??? Im looking at getting a alloy one for mine looks like that fits well and the outlets are on the correct sides.
Cheers Andrew

Andrew,

Yep, radiator's from the same car the engine and everything else is from, my old '93 180SX...it's real thin which is good for clearance, and SUPER lightweight with the plastic and aluminum...but be careful with them though I've seen lots of guys crack the plastic rad's from overheating - not letting the car cool off enough before shutting it down. Seems to work fine in my car though It just fits between the frame rails in the front as long as your front bumper bolts aren't too long, but it's like it was meant to be there, and yeah the outlets are in the correct positions too. There's LOTS of options for upgrades from the S13 radiator too! Now to find the right fans....

I think you're gonna need 3/8 fuel lines

Can use standard steel line with 40 psi pump?

If you are are using a low pressure pump to fill a surge tank, then high pressure from surge tank to the fuel rail, then you can use standard fuel lines from fuel tank to surge tank.

have you tried that?, i have a holley black, and the only place it would fit under the car was ontop of the fuel tank, i'm not sure it will fit where you are thinking, im pretty sure the red and black are the same size, but im not 100% sure where your talking about putting it either

anyway you'll work it out

just wndering if you have an auto or manual tranny tunnel in the 1200?

5/16's" fuel line is plenty enough for the SR20. The SR20 runs 5/16's stock, and is well capable of over 400 rwhp cause that's what my bro is running and he's got plenty of fuel. With higher pressure like EFI, you don't need as large of a fuel line. Pretty much any type of metal fuel/brake line will hold up to EFI...it's the rubber hose parts and clamps that have to be EFI specific for the higher pressure. Also, yes you can use standard hose for the low pressure part of the fuel system, from the fuel tank to the surge tank...but the high pressure EFI fuel line is better quality anyway, so I'm just gonna use that everywhere instead.

The Holley Red fuel pump will mount behind the right rear tire. There is a metal mud/stone deflector there to protect the rubber filler hose. I removed that piece and there is plenty of room for the Holley to mount to the frame sideways. I still have to look up if the Holley pumps can work fine mounted sideways, but I think it'll be fine. I will then reconstruct the stone guard out of aluminum and mount that in front of the fuel pump to protect it from rocks and LOTS of hot rubber I'll try to take pictures of it all hopefully sometime this week. Oh, I also have the auto transmission tunnel......See ya!

hey Andy thats the only place for a Lift pump I have a Carter Black low pressure high volume pump just behind that fuel filler guard. I used the original picup for a return and soldered a 3/8 pickup from the rear RH side of tank.
Thanks for the info on radiator makes my choice a lot easier.
