My car's Water Temp Gauge is reading nearly to the Max Hot of the gauge

Checked the radiator after cooling down and coolant is the same not loosing any water/coolant at all
but there is a trace of brown/rust colour liqud on the radiatorr cap and rocker cover (must've smudge while driving)
How do you know if the coolant in radiator is boiling ? by just listening?

checked oil and fan belt seems fine.
checked timing and idlingchecked radiator surface if somethings blocking it but all clear

the needle stays there even driving on highway with more air flow or just not pushing the car too much

Could it be my thermostat or worst my head gasket?

Only if the coolant is blowing out the cap, the overflow hose or into the overflow tank. There will always be steam.

Considering that the temp in Brisbane today was 28-31c, you probably just experiencing the usual "radiator is just barely big enough to cool under normal weather" problem. To test this theory, wait for tomorrow or next day when forecast is for 25c (77 F). If the temperature is fine with the cooler weather that's probably it.

Razor,

I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago, I was heading down the highway and the temp went sky high. I took some side roads to see if I could get it back down and it didn't work. Even that night it was still running hot. The coolant was fairly new as well.

I ended up changing just about everything, I bought a new radiator cap, thermostat and coolant. I pulled the radiator out and reverse flushed it and changed the thermostat. After all that, it doesn't move above half now. The thermostat was about 1/4 open when I took it out but I think it was actually stuck in that position so it was ok for the small trips it normally does but on the highway it couldn't cope.

The moral of the novel?? It's quite possible your thermostat has had it. Try changing that and see if it makes a difference. I got the thermostat and gasket from Supercheap for under $20 I think

It could be your radiator core. I've been having overheating problems since i put on the weber. I had the radiator checked out and fully 1 set of the 3 rows was blocked, so I had a stock 2 row radiator with bad air flow. I'm picking up a recored radiator today that should have most of my problems solved. before that I checked the thermostat and other things.

Backflushing radiators seems to not really help anything. If you do it yearly then it might prevent some trouble, but once you have cooling problems it seems too late.

I didnt fix my overheating problem, cos I'm holiday right now in Japan.

I changed my thermostat, flushed my radiator and good amount of water flowing, checked carby again, checked oil, no sign of oil in radiator.
I will get my cooling system test when i get back. Hopefully its just need radiator re-core.

Good luck with yours!

What have you done so far to try to fix the problem?

Well Razor! First of all I pulled out the thermostat (Didnt work) then I changed head gasket(Didnt Work)Then found out the water jacket near cylinder 4 was coroaded and was leaking into the cylinder. So then had to replace head!(Still Didnt work)Then I put me radiator out of me 120y into it(Still not working) So decided to put in new termostat. And could'nt even get 1km down the road and she decided she wanted to start boiling again! Don't know what the bloddy problem is!So I'm going to get head shaved and radiator serviced Monday! I've got me fingers crossed that it's going to work

have you checked you water pump?
is the coolant flowing nicely in the radiator?
are there noises coming from the water pump? any leaks? try wiggling the water pump pulley if it moves then it might be corroded inside, and needs to be replaced.

check your hoses if its crimped or when you hold it while engine is running its cold that means theres blockage issues.
Try to feel the radiator fins if you can find cold spots that means its blocked as well.
