#1 Bosch Alternator wiring?
datral_10 Posted on: 2004/10/31 22:29
I've got a bosch 60A alternator from a series 2 blubird and was wondering if anyone knew what wires go where to wire this up. I know this is internally regulated and think i know what goes to all but one of the connections.

In the back there is a small bolt into the body of the alternator which would be earth. There is a large stud that would be +ve power out. There is a small round pin connector which i'm assuming is for the charge light, but i'm not sure what the spade connector is for.
Does what i've said seem correct? Is the spade connector just an ignition power in? Any help will be greatly appreicated as i'm planning to do the state rally championship round in Canberra this Saturday and need a bigger alternator to power my 130W driving lights + 100/140W headlights.

does it look like the one on the right?

Alternator Comparo

Anyways most alternators have -- in addition to earth and '+' -- two wires. One is the Field (F) and the other is the lamp wire (N or S).

You only need to wire the F, to IGN. On the Datsun 1200 regular plug, disconnect the regulator and connect the White/Red wire to the F wire. I just wired up my A14-in-B110 this way, and it charges nicely.

Most every alternator has 4 wires coming out of it. I don't have the wiring diagram in front of me but what ddgonzal said sounds about right. I disconnected and took out the stock voltage regulator and just hooked up the remaining alternator wires to the A15 alternator in the same fashion that the A12 alternator was wired. I did this by just extending the A12 wires to the other side of the engine bay.

I just wired up my SR20's alternator and the basics are still the same, one wire goes to the dash warning/charge light, one to the ground, one to the 12v+ constant and one to the 12v switched I think....like I said I don't have the wiring diagram with me right now so take that with a grain of salt.

Anyways the way I had my A15 wired up it always charged fine, only when I started it up it required me to rev it above ~3500 rpm for the charging to kick in....must have something to do with the Internal Voltage Regulator, cause as soon as you revved it to that point for the first time since startup, the lights would all get brighter....whatever, it worked for almost 10 years.

The SR20's alternator supposedly gets up to 90 amps!! Without having A/C, P/W, and just tons of electronics, I should have a pretty healthy charging system with it! Good luck!
