Yes they have strength and durability. But the 4-speed is better for drag racing. In the 1/4 mile, you'll never get it into 5th gear, so no advantage. And the 4-speeds usually have a lower first gear, which is good for acceleration.

how much of a difference will the lower first gear make???
i would like to make long trips.but with the 4 speed i'm at 2500rpm while going 50mph in 4th gear.so what do you think??
if the lower first gear does not make much difference.i don't know
WITH A 5 SPEED IS IT EASIER TO MIS SHIFT?????????

brother you worry too much ... take your 620 to the Friday night drags, don't even modify it, just start racing. Show them stock Toyota pickups how it's done.
Remember that we are not truck, 620 or LB20B specialists ... but I would think the 4-speed would be faster in the drags, less prone to mis-shift, first gear is a plus with heavy truck and small engine ... and finally you don't need a 5th gear, those 620s went for millions of freeway miles without an overdrive gear.
