do you know what i notice about the people who say all that shit? no 1 - if they are yelling out a car, they are usualy not the one driving, because if they were, you would be able to see the shitbox they drive. no 2 - the people saying the shit, most often, own a commodore, or are one of those v8 only knobs....

!DISCLAIMER! plz dont read on if ur easily offended. yep i agree! i have also suffered the brunt of v8 wankerism and anti datto sentimism. try telling a wog (i am sort of a wog so i should be allowed to say this) that u like 4 cylinder engines....but a maayyte u cun beet da sound off a veee ayyte, workaah vee8 and a four cylindaa and see who makes more powah. This is such a dumb argument, there are a billion responses, and the comment of another was, "only milk and juice come in two litres." But this one takes the cake - a really typical ignorant bloke i went to school with made a comment about imported japanese vehicles. "Just put em' up against victor brayys chev and see what happens", i mean come on. who really belives theyre gonna drive a six second keith black powered car on the street, let alone legally. fine then! ill go one up on u and strap a main rocket booster from the space shuttle Endeavour to my datto and then well see who wins. the fact is its power per litre! and power to weight. it is a 4 cylinder that puts out the highest output for a production vehicle naturally aspirated per litre!!! if the new dunnydore 5.7 had a sniff of that potential it would be putting out around 561kw / 755hp instead of a shitty 300kw(i know in U.S. has much more than this) . those dumb arguments can go on forever. keep away from the straight and narrow, if u like it that way go drive a train, no steering wheel at all! im just asking for a little respect. and as for class, how up ur self must u be to proclaim that u have class. the only people who have the right to say this are the ones who designed the cars. U CANT JUST BUY CLASS its something u already have, a car wont give it to u. if it were that easy then why dont they purchase half 'an idea' while theyre there.i dont drive a car to impress people, how shallow is that.

Dattos are cool. That's all that matters. They are legends, I don't know of many other cars that have lasted 30 years. Take the Holden Camira, it had rusted to pieces in less than 10 years. For me, Datsuns are part of my technical development, the place where I learnt about cars. I was on the bus the other day, and a bunch of school kids were discussing which was better, a Honda 'something' or a Datto. I of course had to listen in, just to see which way it went, it was quite funny. The Datto argument won in the end. And I got the impression that Dattos are becoming a status symbol among the regular schoolkids. I think it's increase in popularity is what is making it become a target for criticism again. In the seventies 80s it was always referred to as 'jap-crap' etc. It's earned some respect due to it's longevity and various sporting event wins, so people have to go back to the same old 8's vs. 4's argument. It's good that these narrowminded people don't like datsun's, that would mean less Datsuns and parts for people like us.
If it really didn't matter, people wouldn't comment on it at all. Take even insults as compliments. At least they are wasting their breath on you and your car!!
The B110 and P510 are coming back in popularity I believe. But as I look around, I see many people are realising the good things about Datsuns in Australia: 1. There's still just enough around 2. Design rules are fewer allowing more modifications 3. They can be made unique unlike WRX's or commodores. All parts are off the shelf. 4. You can transplant more engine if you like. 5. You can still get 30+ miles per gallon. 6. Most Datto people are cool and easy going people. 7. It's not too expensive (yet) to get parts for running repairs. 8. You can have the fastest car on the road. 10. I don't need a 10th reason......
Chris.

I know what you mean about dattos having more respect nowdays....even over the past year i've noticed peoples attitudes change.
When i first started driving my datto over a year ago, i would get the odd positive comment now and then, but most were coming from bogans in VN's and whatnot...
Nowadays it's the other way round, nearly everytime i go to town, someone compliments me on the datto, soe offer to buy it, and on the odd chance that they do abuse me and tell me to buy a 'real' car, i just flatten it and show them exactly WHY i drive a datto.
My friend just bought a CM valiant, with a BIG 265 hemi in it. First thing he does after he buys it? come to my house to give me a drag. Thats the first thing he wants to do, is show my datto up. Against my common sense, i say yeh, and we go out for a cruise.
at the lights, he is stalling it up to 2500. Lights go, and i had too many revs, so i lost a bit of traction, got some traction and wammo, pushed my ass into the seat from that damn first gear ratio. Out of second gear, already 3 metres in front, 3rd gear he is wayyy back. And of course "if mine was running proplerly, blah blah blah" f$#! OFF, why come to my house and ask for a drag if it wasnt running proplerly, and besides, it's how you go on the day, right there and then.
have i gone off topic again?

I couldnt go this far without giving my AU$0.02 worth - one simple phrase to remember - "each to their own". I love the sound of a horny A series, but some big blocks sound pretty sweet too. bogans will be bogans, and we are all judged on our choices. chicks love dattos, and my ute fits a matress in the tray - sweet as. Im thinking of painting my ute fanta orange...

Lunc you are one romantic Ossie. Only problem with the mattress in the back approach is that first your girl has to drive her own car out to your shed where your ute has been parked up for FAR TOO LONG.

With the matress in the ute in the shed, there is less hassle from the law for boinking in public!

Hey Linc my coupe is in the spray booth right now getting a new coat of a 1970 Mustang colour Grabber Orange, very seventies and very cool, lowered on Minilites she'll look the ducks nuts.... I get a phone call a week from young guys trying to find 1200s there is a big resurgence here in their popularity. Even guys with late models like WRXs and Evos are grabbing the low mileage cars and racestoring them that is a stock look with some wheels and a lowering. I have a paddock of 15 1200s to collect from an old farmer who want them to go to good homes, and before I've even picked them up they are all spoken for!!!
