Structural grade tinfoil just does not cut it at 180k into something solid, like a full sized oncoming car, or a reasonable sized power pole or tree.

finally dodgeman you say something we can pick on you for . it had to happen one day

so, which car will survive this 180km/h crash into something solid anyway

youd better rephrase that 1200rc, to "which road legal car can survive the 180kmh crash itno something solid"

Me old 1300 circuit car would pull 122mph down the chute at Pukekohe, it didnt feel very good even with all the aero work we did to it..

Back then, the quickest sport sedan (Rodek powered RX7) was clocked at 171mph on the same straight.

I got passed by him once, about 3/4 the way down the straight, the bow wave just about blew the little 1200 clean off the track.

I'm to old and scared ( I like to think it's growing up too) to run big speeds in road cars these days...

My old sedan going at 130k's was scary enough!!! the ass end felt like a godamn semi-trailer, not to mention the incredible sway that i had.. If the road had of been longer i reckon it MITE of got to 150....

I road in this blokes datto bluebird wagon and he was cracking 160 but the tach only went up 2 6000 (off a bus) so the needle was past point-of-no-return! Luckly it didnt go BANG and it survived! Dont ask me why he used this tach,i spose he thought it couldnt go up this far!

And plus a 1200 ute going at 180k+ is a sight that people would be left and going 'was that a sonic boom or is it just me?'

It was quite some years ago that i watched in horror as a 1937 Fiat Topilino bounced off the Armco after having just passed through the traps at 150mph [240k] It rolled three times end for end before coming to rest on it's left side.
The very shaken driver simply opened the door & climbed out. All the major components were still in their respective places in the chassis, although the car was a write off. It was registered, it was blown hemi powered, & it was street driven [sometimes]
I guess that at 180k, in a frontal impact, the engine of a large car would end up in the front seat, but i suspect out Datsun engines would end up in the boot /trunk.
As far as the driver was concerned, it would all be academic.

Fellas
This was a one off
I have worked on the beast for 4 months in the garage
It does not have any cutouts as I run twin dellortos
It felt stable..front spoiler helped
Car is totally Ae86 sprinter mechanicals.
Did it once.
Don't need to do it again.
I drive have driven this road twice a day for over 4 years.
Decided to take the chance.
What is nice is the look on ppl's faces when they try and overtake and you suddenly disappear in front of them.

By the looks of the front page of the Telegraph i dont think any car could come out un bruised at 180kegs. The R34 Skyline GT-R (EVL-R34) featured was toast and so were the 3 young passengers. P plater. And inside the glovebox im sure it doesnt say "Dont exceed speeds of more that 100km/h for long periods" like our 1200's. But notheless people will try and see what their car is made of at one point in time, but they should never do it with a passenger, nor in built up areas.

A Tragedy.

Yes it is dangerous to go that fast, and it's not easy in a 1200 either unless you got a good amount of performance parts and a 5 speed. I've taken my 1200 up to about 130-135 mph (215kmh) and things were pretty shakey. I wouldn't do it for very long at all if it could, every now and then I'd have a short stint up to ~120mph racing someone but I wouldn't stay there very long at all. The car vibrated a decent amount, mostly from the driveline. Putting in a rebalanced driveshaft helped a lot. Also the car is lowered with a good suspension and brakes so that also helps makes those speeds more attainable too. Unless you know your car very well and keep everything in tip-top shape I definitely wouldn't recommend taking a 1200 up very fast very often.

Yes indeed. A timely reminder indeed...
RIP 3 people + 1 unborn baby.

We all talk about how much local government roads suck... why do some of us drive so fast on them? Please don't speed.
