I have two options, stick with my dodgy A15 gearbox or get my other A12 gearbox which is sloppy but not as bad as the A15..

When i say dodgy i mean there is a loud 'clunk clunk clunk' when the clutch is not pressed and the engine running, but when pressed it goes away and just the 'swish' almost of the clutch plate.... Is this internal in the trans, bearings or what else? This is also a VERY sloppy gearbox (my mum cant find 1st!!)

The A12 g/b however is not to sloppy and does not have this weird sound and does bolt up as the nipple is da same etc..
Oh and will my new clutch and pressure plate go on to this A12 g/b?

So whats the go??

Cheers
Dave

yeah clutch and pressure plate is the same. If the a15 1 is that bad stick in the a12 1. They are just not up to clutch dumping and so forth. However I have a standard a12 box behind a a14 that has had quite a bit of work and it is still there 6months later after alot of thrashing ie line locks, 2nd gear chirps, 3rd gear burnouts around corners.

go the a12 box, i had the fancy pants a14/15 box behind a15tt, and it died pressumably cause it wasnt in that great condition anyway

i've been caining the stocker a12 box without any sign of weakness yet

at the end of the day a lot of these boxes are 30 years old and it really comes down to dumb luck wether you get one thats in good condition or not, and it becomes important when you get more power

i guess a stock a12 box can be heaps tougher than an a15 one, just depending on the condition of both
