I would take the 1000 wagon and 1000 coupe and ditch the 1200 ute, everyone has one of them.
I would say the coupe and wagon are rare as each other and they are both great cars, if I had to pick one I would take the one in better condition.

The coupe, with only a two year production run, would be the rarest. I'd say go with the coupe if they're all the same condition, but then, I'm biased as I now own one too.

Yep - I'd go the coupe (got one too! ) I've found they're hard to get parts for, though... TC

The KB10 [Datsun 1000 coupe] was made from September '68 untill December '69. Thats 15 months of production. Yes, they were made in two separate callendar years, in two models, but they are by far the rarest of the Datsun 1000 family. Additionally, the coupe was made in right drive only, while all other models were made on both left & right drive. As far as i can tell, they were sold only in Japan [as the Sunny coupe] & here in Australia [as the Datsun 1000 coupe]. If anyone knows of another country where they were marketed, please let me know. Now you know which was the rarest of the B10 family. In fact, they may well be the rarest of the B10 /110 /210 /310 family of fine Datsun cars.
Yes, they can be hard to get some parts for, but if it was easy, then everyone would have one.
The VB10 Van, also known as the Wagon, was made from late '66, as the 1967 model & remained in continuous production untill the end in December 1969. Only the two door sedan matched it in longevity.
If you want something common, something that just about everyone has got [or had] then go for the 1200 ute, but if you want to have something that is a cut above, then go for the KB10 first, then maybee the Van, & depending on condition, the sedan for spares. Not that i'm biased you understand.

You might think so, but there is still LOTS to learn. I was only repeating what i have learned from my parts book. Thanks for the kind words anyway.
Ever noticed how one-eyed Datsun 1000 /Sunny coupe owners are? Also notice that all but one of the respondants so far are coupe owners. There's gotta be a message in there somewhere.
Edit I have reason to believe that there may have been three, or possibly four ex-Australian Datsun 1000 coupes in New Zeland. One of these has appeared in the photo album on this site.

Bah 1000 coupes are common I have 2
Just kidding......they are rare and hard to find. Its certainly my choice for something "allittle bit different"
Parts can be tricky if your after trim or tail lights .... but otherwise most everything else can be found on a sedan or wagon. Doors are hard to find without splits in the top near the mirror. Luckily I have a spare drivers.....and will one day make spare fibreglass ones too. (guards and boot also)
Go the coupe if you can get one is my opinion.

i may be able to get one alright, there is one of each of these cars sitting out on a farm just rotting away. i need to find who owns them and then make an offer. I would get all of em but i have no room at home. and i want the ute just because i love them.
