Jesse Jesse Jesse!
u want a good turbo? Go the T2 with CA18 internals. I seen it done before, the guy did a 13.7 @ 103mph, and its not a drag but a track setup. Although he did have injection and a custom cam plus E15(?Why?) pistons. As for the carb setup, just do what ever suits your budget. I know the other guys have a lot more experience than i do, but a friend of mine as u may already know had a T3 draw thru setup on his L20 and never ever had a problem, i think all u may have to do is research and see if there are any traps to fall in with this setup.

Heh. We all seem to be thinking alike. I already scored a Turbocharger off of an '87 Subaru Wagon. ;) I still need to top of the exhaust system tho. :) I'm still hunting for a fuel injection manifold for my A14. Wire that up with a home built megasquirt fuel injection computer, and it should be just a matter of dialing in the numbers. ;)

yeh, lpg is better for a turbs setup me thinks. As long as it's all setup right, gas is wicked. My friends Gay-lant (thats right, GAYlant) runs an LPG turbo setup with a starion motor. Oh yeh, i got pics too! will scan them soon, and post them. As well as a ton of datto pics that i took yesterday. You guys'll love it

some of the pics include that turbo 1000 i talked about, 2 other 1000's, and our 1000 convertible! And my friends 120y GX, haha. Yeh, we found this GX motor in a 120y? dunno how it got there...

Thanks heaps for all the info guys, it's been a great help. I am still gonna go with the drawthrough setup, but now i know what to watch out for.

Thanks

-Jesse

Guys, just a little info of carby turbos from Zoom Magazine if it helps.

Blw thru system - "The problems are numerous; one of the biggest is that the carburettor body itself needs to be sealed so that boost pressure doesn't cause pressurised air and fuel to vent directly into the engine bay (Bang!)." Someone I think mentioned sealing all around the carby?

Blow thru system - "...ultimate carby set-up that allow intercooling, more precise distribution and metering, they are harder to implement and rare in comparison to the number of suck-through systems."

What about cold weather? Poor starts, freezing fuel (I mean actually frozen) and accelerator pump setings to lessen the lag between pressing the throttle and getting the go.

For more info get Zoom No.40.

My mechanic wants to Turbo my Ford XB ute that runs a 4ltr OHC XR6 motor (straight six) but the only prob is he wants to use a suck thru using an SU carby. It will set me back $2k but I told him to shove it unless he was going with EFI. Not worth the bother I reckon.

Sorry, thats just my AUS 2 cents, choose what ever path you want. Good luck, if they still go hard I dont think there is much of a problem.

Simon

P.S. The Edited part is to say that you CANT intercool a suck thru system. Sorry if that confused anyone.

Simon, I think you either misread or misprinted because you CAN intercool a blow through system. You CANNOT intercool a draw through system. You do have an very valid point on the carb sealing though. If everything isn't sealed on a blow through, things could get ugly. The easiest (?) way to acomplish this is to box the whole carb up and the pressurize the box. Once I saw under the hood of a Maserati Bi-turbo, I was convinced.
Of course I would be the last one to argue against fuel injection as the best way to go. I am not familiar enough with LPG so it might be better, I don't know. Oops, have to go do some actual work now. The railroad needs me.
