What does it matter about being an ex colony...and that we have a union jack in our flag?
The thing that really counted to Australians at the time of the referendum was:-

A) We constantly thrash the pommies at their own sporting games like cricket, rugby and league, not to mention totally annihalating them on overall medal count at the Olympics. (you cant count the world cup win by England as they threw 80 million pounds at the effort to beat us by 1 point)

B) We have a country which all Brits are totally envious of.

C) Our fuel prices are about the 1/3 of their costs in relation to the avarage income

D) We hold 43% of the worlds petroleum reserves

E) Our country is 11 times bigger than theirs with 1/6 of the population

F) We still have an abundance of Datsuns

I think most Australians like our flag and heritage...and that they can use the colonial aspect of our past to rub salt into the wounds as well.......

Dodgeman, no offense intended towards you and your fellow Aussies, there are those who still refer to the USA in that way,as if they still can't figure it all out. it was only ment tounge in cheek.
at least you all get it, the Canadians, I still wonder about.
