#1 finally the a15 is in
datsun120ycoupe Posted on: 2005/3/8 0:49
after a hard weekends work, and 30-40 bourbons later its all setup. struck quite a few problems, major one was when we had it all setup the first time and went to go take it for a drive, the clutch would stay engaged, i am using the box off the a12. the cause of that was that the flywheel was quite a bit bigger than the a12 one so we changed those overs....after that, it worked very well. only got one problem now, i suspect it is timing but not sure.....when i turn off the engine, it turns a few more times then backfires through the carby....any ideas to what the cause might be? the power difference is quite noticable between a a12 and a15, only mods so far is extractors and cold air intake. will have pics as soon as i found my camera.

Good to hear its in all good after 30to40 bourbons... Cause when me and a mate put an a15 in his datto after drinking we forgot to put the oil filter on we had the car running for about 5minutes before we noticed it.. But all was fine..
Hope you work it out

either the timing, or a wiring fault (the coil stilll gets some power after you turn ignition off)

Is your anti desieling solenoid hooked up?

Could be running too much advance. Retard it and see if that fixes it. can also be caused by idling too fast.

soo true, my A15 hammers if i ever put the foot all the way down. once its properly worn-in ill be able to take heaps of cars on the road.
i ended up using the A15 flywheel with no problems (although i did buy a new A15 clutchkit as well), also using 4-speed coupe box.

the A12 and A15 flywheels are extaclly the same diameter and size, dont matter what you use it in it will fit like most Datsun parts will swap over!
Gawd i cant wait to get my A15 back in, this thing is gona fly!
One quesiton, has many people seen much difference since a lightened flywheel? Like a much more 'touchy' accelerator and revs staying up there for longer??

Good to see another A15 rescued from extinction!
