#1 ca18 1200 completes first race in 3 years

Im back home after a very long day and night In bathurst. Scutineering was on friday arvo I took the afternoon off work and towed her over. Didnt even get it off the trailer before the first breakage Shock mount at rear drivers side snapped off should have been a 15 minute job !!!! (took till 11.pm to fix it )
On race day checked out the rest of the competition holly crap I wish I was still running in over 3000cc improved production. The calibre of some of the big gun sports sedans was unreal I didnt really expect to do that well in a class of 16 cars.
First run I took it pretty easy just getting used to how it drives (very different) power is great pulls like a train only had to use 3rd and 4th for most of the track 1.7km long pulls strong from 3500 was hitting the rev limit a few times at 8000 . Time 57.08
Second run I give it heaps of the line squats nicley a bit of wheel spin first and second pulls it out to 7200 in 4th brake hard and late before turning and heading uphill was pushing a bit in the front end pulled 6500 in 4th upto the cutting brake and back to 3rd give it heaps losing a bit of traction using the riple strips into 4th and grunts along the rest of the track. Im really happy with the power band its so broad I dont have to rev snot out of to get it going just grab a higher gear and pulls away.
Time 54.78
Last run I loaded it up foot on brake and gas then took off squated well with little wheelspin hit limiter 2nd first corner much the same as second run pushed a little harder into the cutting and grabing 4th earlier used all the track and pushed really hard into last high speed corner the front was actually letting go ended up with a best of 53.63
Finished around the middle of my class 8th and in the top 20 from 88 cars so not bad at all for its first outing.
I didnt get time to take any video only a few pictures Im hoping the local guy got a few of me coming up the mount.

Nice to hear you had so much fun with your new fabolous setup. We are very envious of your datsun but also very proud. We hope the best for you and the worst to non datsun lovers.

Adjustable konis on the rear set soft-medium and some big fat 225/50/15 toyo RA1's on 8 inch rims. The way the boost comes in lower and not as hard also helps. It used to come in with a big rush making it hard to keep traction
The new roll cage has also stifened the car up heaps handles very different but in a good way just have to learn how hard I can push her.
The car that won my class was beserk a gemini with a 360rwhp Sr20 I joked with him about the only way to get it to go was with a nissan engine LOL. Most the guys where running slicks and tube frame with fibreglass bodies. I was 4-5 seconds behind him he was nearly 2 seconds in front of 2nd place. Another gemini with 360hp at the fly holden 6 injected with one of them fancy alloy heads. With another few runs I reckon I could have maybe improved around another 2 seconds I made a few mistakes. Its hard to get all the corners right with only 3 runs to see what the car does

good onya mate. not bad for a first outing in what's basically a completely different car. especially considering you're running on DOT semi slicks up against Sport Sedans! Roll cage makes a big diffeence to the car's feel, hey?
