I eneded up finding out the my either head or head gasket was stuffed....cause of the water in the oil.....
anyways we took the head off and then realised it would be a good time to put new pistons and big end bearings in.....

my mate the mechanic said that my pistons were in good condition and i could get away without having to bore the engine......

before we are able to start to put things back together he needs a few things

1. piston to bore clearance

2.big end bearing tensions

3.ring gap

If anyone could give some useful tips on rebuilding a 1400 it would be great .....or if they know the answers to the questions above ....it would be extreemly useful

i know u will probably say get a manual.....my questions is where do i get one from....
can i download one or will super cheap have one......im not in a very big town here

give me ur 2cents please!!!

thanks heaps fat14s

Piston to cylinder block clearance is 0.025 -0.045 mm or 0.0010 - 0.0018 inches for an A14.

The manuals come up on ebay from time to time and you want to get a Nissan factory manual if possible as they're more specific and have the most correct information. This clearance was from my B310 manual.

Not sure what you mean on big end tension but here's what I've got:

Bearing clearance: in mm and (inches)
0.030 - 0.079 (0.0012 - 0.0031)

Tightening torque: 3.2 - 3.8 kg-m or 23-27 ft-lb

Ring gaps: in mm and (inches)

Top 0.20 - 0.35 (0.0079 - 0.0138)
Second 0.15 - 0.30 (0.0059 - 0.0118)
Oil 0.30 - 0.90 (0.0118 - 0.0354)

Hope this helps.

Yeah thats the exact same figures out of my B310 manual so tis all good... I dont know what brand my manual is, i think its actually factory specs one as it has

'Export Service Department'
Nissan Motor CO.,LTD
17-1, Ginza 6-Chrome, Chuo-ku, Tokyo 104, Japan

And i got a Axle, Suspension and electrical (wiring) book aswell as engine, transmisson & g/b book aswell.... Theres a name J.Jerger on the front of both of these also....Any ideas??

historical and interesting at the same time!
