Hate to bring back a thread from the dead....but.... I thought it'd be good to say a quick hello from another datsun loving townsville lad.

B120dat: I'm pretty sure I've met you before when we popped in on one of the pulse cruises. I'm the guy with the red 260Z 2-seater. I also have a sorta neat (but stock) B310 sedan now (and love it!).

Iori: Can't say I've seen your 1200 around....looks nice though.

Anyhow, maybe some time we should get an old school nissan/datsun cruise together up here. There's certainly plenty of them around....just never get them all in the one place at the one time.

Since this has been brought back from the dead. I thought I'd share the part numbers for seatbelts that are great in a 1200.

Klippan (Order through Repco)
Front retractables = K1512
Drop links to Suit = K7099
or
Klippan part number K4264 - designed for 73 Holden hq coupe (Some repco and klippan dont recognise this part number anymore, but it's worth a try)

I see the ute around from time to time....looks the goods. :)

The zed actually hasn't changed too much in that time....well nothing obvious anyway. However, plenty of bits and pieces behind the scenes have been replaced in that time. I'm currently (slowly) building a new engine which should be in soonish.

The 310. I'm not going to touch it for now being my daily and also I don't want to start any big projects seeing as I probably wont be up here anymore after I've finished uni around August. However, long term I'm looking into an engine swap to a VQ25DE (215HP 2.5L all alloy V6 from the V35 skyline) would be a hoot in a nice light car like this, and not too heavy to badly upset the weight balance.

At this stage I'm just researching what I can do suspension and drivetrain wise as I really am still a beginner with these cars. Alternatively, I can get my hands on a stanza front end quite easily so could chuck an L20B in there.....that wouldn't be too bad.

We also have to two sunny fastback wagons destined for dirt duties, one with an A14 and the other a rooted A15. I have a spare L20B sitting around here so might chuck that in basher sunny II, see how it goes. Anyone want a tired A15? :)

If I remember I'll give you a yell next time we're all out for a cruise...I'm keen to have a good look at your ute. :)

Justin

I think 850 for a a15 sounds about right, but what is sold in Australia as a low k jap motor in Australia was probably a high k thrashed motor in japan.
I had my GX motor fully rebiult for 900 bucks but I removed the motor and cleaned it down and did everything that I could so the engine guy did not have to.
The 700 bucks this guy has quoted you to R & R the motor is an absolute rip off,by my quick calculations he is charging over one hundred dollars an hour.
Why not update your tools at supercheap i.e socket set,set of spanners and hire an engine crane then also buy a w/shop manual a six pack of beer sit back one night and read the manual and give it a try yourself.
The $1620 he is quoting will get you a pretty hot reco'd A12 and you will end up with a pretty good beginners tool kit.
Also let your fingers do the walking phone around your local engine people and get a few quotes.
hope this helps
Ade
