If its not making enough money to to keep running the event who ever is in charge of that side of things should come to the rally of melbourne & get some pointers of how it is run from the organisers because that rally makes heaps for the local goverments.
Unfortunately a state round of the ARC cant be compared to a round of the WRC.
The costs to run such an event cant realistically be compared. As an example - to run a Subaru (PBMS car at ARC) it costs around $200- $300 AUD per Kilometer, WRC cars are around $2500 per Klm, on top of that there are those wonderful individuals in this world that deal with insurance costs. Its the same old story, everyone wants to sue everyone else if they get a scratch. This was one of the unwritten things that had a bearing on WA's decision.
There have been rounds of WRC run overseas using the local championship models and they have been run at a loss so unfortunately its not that easy. Having said that its also not impossible either. Seems that when things get a little tough and risks need to be taken (even by organisers) they bale out.
It will be extremely difficult if not impossible to secure the event for Australia if it goes oversees.
