hey guys need some help. when driving my ca18 ute it makes this weird vibrating noise kinda like a supercharger only way louder, it is only feeding the engine around 6-7 pound instead of its normal 20 pound appetite. checked the compressor wheel and it is still spinning normally so i got no idea? all pipes are still securely attatched, what could it be.

got some thing for sale also;
1) a complete ute diff only wanting $100
2) 2 doors of a ute giving away
3) a 4 speed gearbox to give away
4) lastly a ute dash to give away

cheers

Not sure about the vibrating/noise, but it could be something to do with the wastegate (might be stuck open). Also I'd check all the lines and make sure that there are no leaks (your vacuum/boost gauge should help with this).

Is it running factory computer?? Sometimes if there is a problem with the engine (a sensor down etc) they resort to base mapping & no boost (well 6psi is no boost )

Also, sent you a pm about the stuff you have for sale

when the car is idling it sounds fine but as soon as you rev the engine it starts to make the noise. so how do yoe see if the internal wastegate is stuck open? the engine runs an ems computer and the turbo is a t4/t3 hybrid turbo?

Depends if it's internally gated or not. If it's an internal wastegate then you should be able to remove the actuator arm from wastegate and it should flap backwards and forwards freely. If it is in or externally gated you should be able to diagnose this also just by removing the vacuum line to the wastegate all together. If it's not stuck open it should boost off it's head, if it is it will go exactly like it's going now!

My FJ20 gets boost leaks all the time in the dodgy pipe work and because it's MAP sensed it's not obvious it's happening. If it sounds like your turbo is working really hard but you're not going anywhere then it could quite possibly be a split hose or bad pipe.

It's the rectangular gasket between the turbo and the exhaust manifold. It is a VERY VERY common symptom. The noise sounds like the turbo compressor wheel is hitting the housing? But with a kind of fluttering noise?

Get a 13mm spanner and try and tighten up the nuts that hold on the turbo. If they are the original nuts, they'll be "captured" by the special plates that sit under the nuts.

If the nuts are even a little bit loose, then this is your problem.
