#11 Re: L20 into 1200 coupe

I just dropped an L20B into a B310 coupe. they a a fairly tall motor. Rather than pack the Xmember down, I chose to ressess the top of the Xmember in the centre. When modifying the sump, A WORD OF ADVISE, when test fitting it to measure how much to cut away, do it with the steering on FULL LOCK. As the steering goes toward full lock the drag link rises and moves toward the rear of the car as it moves through it's arc.

I fitted the L20 in without lowering the crossmember, and the oil pump and swaybar are in the original position. I used a stanza sump without modification

Hey all,
thanks heathbruce, good to hear. Latest movements has the sump slightly modified (hardly at all) and the motor sits in fine with a 6mm crossmember spacer. This may change after the towers are made and I see how much the cortina mounts compress.Being conservative at the moment so the spacer may come out at the end of the day. The adjustable swaybar Benny had made for me clears the oil pump but may(?) be spaced if the car has too much droop. All in all going fairly well, so maybe next season I will go out and rub panels with Craig in IPRA Cheers

Cheers Craig,
yes I have the plan for a "weapon of mass frustration" but yet to find the pre loved race motor for it - but it will pop up I'm sure! Did you solve the headlight problem ??
If you are nice I might make a second set of bits so you too can be lured to the 'dark side' of the L series
Cheers

I know that its not an l series but I just recently put a naps z motor in my 1200 sedan and it was a tight fit but it was done,

They are a little shorter in hieght to the l series I think?

But I did space my x-member down 1/2", the main problem I had was fitting the 91 240sx gearbox in the trans tunnel

what would you be looking at costs to transplant an l20 into a sunny? it could be a sick project to do to get some more mechanical confidence up before i get to my license and all?
