Hey guys and girls the time has come to part with my 1200 sedan. I am heading overseas hopefully in Oct so the datto has to go.

1973 Datsun 1200 sedan. Worked L16. L18 crank, L16 rods, L18pistons, sss head, big cam, twin 40mm webers. Webers are fed by an electric pump mounted under the driver side rear. The engine is mated to a skyline 5 spd running out to a locked corolla 4:3 diff. 2.5inch mandrel bent exhaust.

Suspension consists of s13 silvia 1.8 turbo coilover front struts and brake setup. These struts run Koni yellow inserts and formula suspension linear rate springs. Braking consists of Metal King pads on std rotors. 120y front swaybar fitted.

At the rear you will find Koni red coilovers running in conjunction with reworked std leaves to locate the diff and minimise axle tramp. Braking is taken care of by the KE30 corolla drums. Also includes rear strut brace.

In front of the coupe dash there is a Momo steering wheel and 2, 4 point TRS 3inch harnesses FIA approved till 2008. The race seats that are currently in the car will not be sold with it as they were on loan to me. Some std buckets of Datsun origin will be fitted for sale. Interior is stripped and back seat has been removed and plated up. The cabin is sealed from the boot. Battery is now located in the rear.

Wheel are ET pulsar 14" running race compound retreads. These are fantastic on dirt and just as good on road when buffed down.

On a personal note, this is a regretful sale but life moves on. I rebuilt this car from ground up with L18_B110's help. Originally the sedan was fitted with an A12 turbo but reliability proved an issue. The Lseries now residing in it is the engine that was previously in L18_B110's coupe.

This car hauls ass, handles like it's on rails, stops on a five cent piece and gives change. A very competitive vehicle setup for hillclimb, motorkhanas, autocross and touring road events. Excellent first race car. First to ride will buy.

The price is $4000 firm. No offers. Car will be ready for sale next week.

Just one quick question out of interest. Could it be regisistered? If not what would have to be done to make it legal?

Yes it can easily be registered. Craig had everything engineer approved and mod-plated with the A12 turbo setup. Just needs another inspection for the L series engine conversion. The x-members and engine are straight out of my 1200, and were engineer approved and mod-plated in my car, so it should be a breeze.

As Harry said, yes it can be rego'd easy as. everything in the car is mod plated. I have the engineer's report in front of me. (Found it Harry) Seating capacity, aftermarket seats, Turbo, front suspension mod, coilovers, front brakes and borg warner diff. All modded you would need to get another inspection for the L engine and box. Cost you $100 maybe then get a rwc and rego.

I can help with the engine specs - I built it.

- L16 block - 1770cc - 116bhp at wheels
- 10.2 CR flat top L18 pistons
- 76 degree works cam. 47/77 82/42 304degrees duration .514" lift.
- genuine SSS head - "219" casting. mild porting, valve and chamber work.
- custom headers
- lightened flywheel
- balanced - long rod L18 bottom end
- sports 2000 clutch

The engine got me alot of Under 2L class wins at hillclimbs, autocrosses, and sprints including Bathurst, and a 2nd place in class at QLD Hillclimb Championships. Engine only has one season on it since a freshen-up which it didn't really need.

$3500 as is. No time, no patience. Take it away as is. Tailshaft and exhaust to be shortened. Linkages for webers and the radiator needs to be bolted back in. I have too much happenning atm and my place is beginning to look like a second hand car yard.

Rolling pictures
Buildup pictures with the turbo motor

Hi Craig, Did you sell it yet? If not, how far are you from my place at Wellington Point. I would like something interesting to street & it sounds like a possibility.

Craig,
Pity its not in NZ as we would be having a serious chat.
Could you tell me some more about the Corolla back end- is it ex a KE20 or 30?
Was it a straight bolt in and how do they compare lengthwise with the Datsun 1200 diff?
As I understand it the standard ratio for these is 4.3/1 which is a damn good all round sport ratio that would still give a good top end without reving the hell out of the motor and trying to find this ratio for the H145 is going to be an uphill battle.
Cheers
Dave
