well turns out in my whole blowing diff and gerabox saga

i managed to blow the motor also

hard to tell whats wrong with it, but will pull it down soon, basically theres a huge knocking noise, possibly a piston not connected anymore?

so yeah........no heathcote for me

am doing the ring around to see whos got what blocks at the moment

ill swap the block over and make my return!

are a-series not built for the punishment???

i dont think ill weld any diffs anymore, as i tend to think this all revolves around the diff blowing, back to producing sprung load lockers i believe

thanks goes to lagwagon for his help the last couple of days in getting it back together

p.s. when will i learn not to get excited about events, every time im geting it ready for something all turns pear shaped on me

the whole driveline in one hit! That's gotta be a first! You gotta stop running over those black cats rallycar

just out of curiosity, what boost do you run, and how hard do you rev it?

anyway I'd put money on it being a cracked piston or 3... That's always been the weak link in my experience with turbo A series. I've seen them go in the skirts from the groove in the oil ring down to the bottom of the skirt, and I've also seen them go due to cracked compression rings (thank you mr. detonation) which then double up in the groove and take chunks out of the piston headland.

Not sure if ACL actually make the E15T piston anymore, but that would probably be the best bet this side of forged pistons, but the 33.10 comp height will be too tall for the A15. These are the piston options I was looking at for an A14 turbo from the ACL catalogue (76mm diametre with 19mm pins):

E15 comp ht: 32.10 dish: 22.2cc
E15T comp ht: 33.10 dish: 23.5cc
E16 comp ht: 32.10 dish 18.4cc
GA16DE comp ht: 29.10 dish 12.3cc

Sh!t happens.
What was the history of your engine? (Second hand, rebuilt)
My engine suffered a mishap also. But, My new one is drawing ever nearer.
Talk to D/Man, he has a book which is loaded with good tips for building "A" engines .

My new donk has, balanced, polished and peened conrods, Balanced crank/flywheel etc. And Im enlarging the oil orifaces in the crank ocording to the factory nissan rally prep specs.
All this along with some more dished out pistons, and a freshley reseated, and reguided GX head with the slightly larger A15 valves.

Are you sure you haven't shaken the flywheel loose again?

thanks for the offers/info guys, but if i was gonna spend money on an engine i think id just go straight for a CA instead (have one in need of rebuild), ill just pick up another a15 stock block for this

um, trying to remember what loose fly sounded like? its possible, the thing that concerns me the most was that the nut on the front of the crank was loose... whch could indicate bent crank (should stop guessing and tear the motor out really....probs do that tomorrow as long as the girl doesnt distract me again...)

hmmm should have checked the flywheel bolts when changing the gearbox dammit!!!

while ive got someones attention, do CAdets have forgies (i dont think so but checking) and do 4agze have em?

I believe that CA18DET's used a forged piston, along with stronger rods etc, but the NA version, the CA18DE, uses cast pistons.
Do blown or turbo Toyopets use forged pistons? Probably.
Can anyone verify?

Fitting a CA18 DE engine to your coupe sounds to me like the way to go Michael

HERASEY!!!!!!!!!!!!

CA's go very hard indeed, but unless you chop the firewall, handling will suffrer.
Stay with the "A"
