yeah i know the pinto has great potential(i have 2) but i still thought u L20b would be a better engine.

Will just see how much i get.....Cannt even ask about the L18 cause we dont even have them here ....How much Hp does a worked L16 make..using only (34mm chokes..class regs).

Twin 45's will only give you around 190hp flat out.

Not if you use 45mm chokes.

I know of an L16 that makes 180hp flywheel ,but has with 40mm chokes and is not an over the top set up.

So you could get the same.

The largest chokes a 45DCOE will take are 42mm (without machining out the body of the carb) and then there is no choke at all.

The works L20B 2000cc engines only just managed 200 hp with 156 ft/lbs torque with all their resources. There is nothing significantly better we can do to the engine today than then.

The basic works rally and race engine specs were 86 x 86mm bore/stroke with Twin 48 webers and 43 mm chokes. They ran both FIA or normal heads with 44mm inlets and 36mm exhaust valves. The valves were 214N stainless that were tuliped and swirl polished with stellite tips then nitrided.

The engines ran cassete style air filters, with an HM53C interference type exhausts with lengthened secondaries.

Most were 10.8:1 on 100 octane avgas or 10.5 on super.

The cam was a wade 479C (76 degree) 304 degree advertised duration.

The cranks had screw in plugs fitted were ground 0.010" on mains and big ends then nitrided and straightened. The rods were the rods were aligned fitted with chev bolts then closed and honed and shot peened.

The whole bottom end including pulleys and clutch pressure plate flywheel were individually zero balanced , assembled the the assembly zero balanced.

They used a Z18T (280ZXT) oil pump.
The sump was baffled and fitted with windage tray.

Keep the pinto out of this site!
The cast iron 2l escort is no better than the old kent head. Its junk without esslinger 3rd party specialty head. The l20b is raped for its rods by pinto people and twin cam 16v volvo heads are modified onto them by some to give the pinto some credibility. As for the L is you want to make over 200hp you have to turbo one or fit a modded ka24 head for the best bang for buck and even then you better start with the z20 engine for budget reasons. The ka24 twin cam head and 3 valver have 2 34mm inlet valves!!!!

hey the rods are strong arent they??? and the 16v volvo head only fits unto the american 2300 pinto engine. that head conversion isn't all that either, cause a 2300 can achieve 300n/a hp and 760hp turbo charged.

back to the datsun talk now....cause thats the car i have now.....
