Guys,

where is the best place to put a set of splits?
i have had a set of Clarion 2-ways in the doors but i found water leaked into the door and that would eventually get my speakers.
i have now *squeezed* them into the factory positions (under the dash) but i dont like the sound quality, i think the speakers dont have
enough room to breathe.
I was thinking of putting a decent set of splits in the rear panels (next to the rear seat).
I would also like to seal off my boot from the rest of the interior, so then i have somewhere to mount 6" x 9" speakers and subs.
Thanks for any help & ideas

Simon

When i installed a system in my old coupe, i put 6x9's in the rear panels and 6` up front were the standard ones went. The 6x9's sounded great. I made up some wooden mounts behind the
panels which acted like a bass box i guess. But i was happy with the sound. Up front things were different. The pioneer 6` sucked. I had to buy some 1` spacers to fit them in and as you
said, the sound qaulity wasnt good. I was thinking about putting them in the door. But i thought they would get wet. And in the boot i had a 10' sub which i borowed from a freind. In the
end it was a pretty good setup. All you need is a bit of imagination and some customizing and you will have a cool sounding system.

I had 6's in the doors on mine, had found a nice little place for them.. And in the rear quarters I had put in 10" subs.. They fit, I'm still amazed about that, and the
body made perfect speaker boxes for them.. :)

i am not supprise that the speaker dont sound as good in the factory location (the closer to you for midbass the better, i installed mine in the factory location but used plastic lik the
origanal to seal around and aflap over it to keep the water off, i also used sound deadener in the doors to help the midbass . also somthig you may like to know getting to the doors electric
windows are p@#s easy to fit in to the doors (available at jaycar) whichy iseven easyer than cental locking which is damn easy in 1200 doors iknow im getting off the point ,but in such an old
car its so cheap and cool... getting back to the point though the best area to moun the tweeter 4 immiging is on eitherside of the dash . for the subs i know u want to mount them where the
tank is but the further back the more bass. 4 the 6 9s the factory shelf is the best but make a decent shelf using mdf, u are probably wanting tostill carry stuff in to boot with the subs but
all good things come at a comprimise and i would recomend if you are going to fang around or carry things around just take the subs out they only slow you down anyway and if ya wana boom
throw them in in there box with no comprimises and make your noise. you may find if you are using big subs the boot will rattle ,just put heaps of undrbdie tar under it and tighen the boot
down ,you may need to ut some rubber under it as chocks. these are my expereances and prefrences and should be regarded as only those.and im tired...yawn.. and i would be intrested in ANY
opinions or questions.
