I have thinked about it myself too, however it will be quite complicated since a lot of modifications have to be done. All the front suspension will have to be replaced and new conections to the car structure will have to be designed. The rear diff is not rigid as the one of our cars and it has helicoidal springs, so a lot of mods have to be done. However it is possible and it will be a hell of a car.

I estimate that the cost of that (here in Portugal) getting the parts from a wrecked car (and the price has a great variation, since there is the chance of getting it from a insurance company (cheaper) or from a Junkyard (more expensive)) will be something like US$5000 to US$10000.

I hope that i haven

Aparantly there was a guy here in Canberra Australia who had done it to a 1200 coupe. After I got my A15 put in mine everyone started telling me that I should have put the SR20DET engine out of a GTIR with 4WD drivetrain like "this guy with the purple coupe did"
I never saw it and that was about 3 years ago now and I haven't heard anything more about it. So I don't know how truthful it was.
Guess this info wouldn't really help you too much
Sorry...

I too have heard of that car. What you would need to do is use the entire floor pan of the GTiR and join it to the outer shell of the coupe. The wheel base and track are different but it can be done. It's a ton of welding though but would make an awesome sleeper...
