I would have bid $4000, but agree the vinyl top is a minus. For a car collector though, the top may be considered a plus as a 'rare' feature. Good thing I didn't buy it, I'd drive it every day and soon it wouldn't be a low-mile 1200 any more.
That has got to be a record high price for a stock Datsun 1200 in the USA. Remember, they only costed $1,850 back in 1971 ... As far as I know, the record price for a stock 2-dr sedan has been $2500. Of course modified 1200s have been sold for much higher prices, as it should be.
