In my opinion, this is only the downside to owning a nice car and most should just put up with it. We ask for attention and the bad must be taken with the good.

I have been pulled over numerous times and have come away clean.
If your car is straight and you give the police a bit of respect then there is nothing to worry about.

On converted's point.
This is a very valid one as the idiots on the street know nothing. I myself test formula fords, have raced karts etc and the experience from that is something that cannot even be imagined unless tried. These idiots who go fast in a straight line, brake late then swing their cars into a corner have no idea.

Speed is not going sideways - this is the slowest way around (at least on tarmac). It may feel fast and fun but it is no real achievement.

The road will never match the fun and skill of the track.
Cheers
Brock

I say bring on the hoon plates! So that you can all be looked upon in shame, hell you might even have some widow who's husband was killed by a reckless driver come and bash on your window while your in traffic..... good.
It frustrates me to no extent some of the topics that are brought up on this and other forums by people like you.
I totally agree with converted and the other more respectable members of datsun 1200.com. I'm still young, 23, and i have quite a few friends who think that the are the bee's knee's when it comes to having a bit of a steer. One of them recently had an accident in his 1600 where his left leg ended up going out through the rear of his hip, he now owns a stock 120y that is auto because he cant use a clutch, wanker. I was lucky enough to race karts throughout my teens and i think that has given me a good grounding in my driving. I dont own a fast roadgoing car. I have two projects that i'm building for the track and my girlfriend and i have an automatic datsun 1200 sedan to get around in. My dad used to rally a mk2 escort with all the trimmings, ive been scared to death many times on the dirt by him, and he wouldnt even drive that fast, that has made me respect and understand a car when it is on the edge.
Anyway enough of my criticizing comments i feel old, i will let others fill in what i have missed.
Sean

think the best way to fix all these hoon's is the same way that stopped me, i was and still am young (25) and i was one of the biggest ###kheads on the road untill i joined the state emergency service and spent the last three year going and cutting people out of cars over stupid little mistakes ( like changing a cd) and having seen people from as young as 2, it afects u more that any hoon plate ever will. now i spend my time on saving lives not being a d##khead and taking them

Firstly, I mean no offence to the younger members of this forum, but mostly whats behind this "hooning" is the feeling of invincibility that we have when we are young.

As you get older you see your life as more precious and you see how easily you could have lost it doing stupid things.

When you are young you can feel you have to prove yourself and you laugh in the face of danger, but often your hormones are urging you on.

The urge to go fast never leaves you as you get older, but it becomes tempered by better judgement and the realisation that you are mortal and you dont want to die.

So you become staid old men restoring cars rather than using them to break the land speed record.

I wont be writing to ACA ,they dont care either way about the car scene (or anything else) they are just on the lookout for soft targets to victimise for ratings, its garbage, and you would be a mug to watch it.

And would they care if you sent an email? I hardly doubt it... what purpose would it serve any way sending an email to a program (or cop-out of a program) that wouldnt give THE slightest sh!t if you did in the first place.

Ive posted my views about this too many times to ramble on again, lets just say I am also with converted on this matter. Me being one who wants to get into the sport but kind of need to find a way in first! But me NOT being one who is classified as a 'hoon', some really need to experience what a near fatal or fatal accident is like to appreciate proper/responsible driving
I did and nearly paid the price, thus i do not drive like that anymore.

Fat14s yes i did read the thread and all posts posted by people in it and just let me say, I reckon half of the people who DID post a reply would not have much of an understanding of the broader picture that you/they have brought up here. To you (by the sounds of it) it is a 1 sided argument;

'anyone with a modified car is getting pulled over and harrased by cops/media etc.' Also are you saying that it is just young drivers that are getting discriminated against or older more experienced people aswell?

I wont be casting my spam towards them, I dont know if you came here looking for sympathy or backup but im sorry i aint giving it!

Dave

did half of you guys even read the posts in boost cruising .....i doubt it very much......
its nuthin about hoon plates or seeing how good your can drive on a track......
its purely about the fact that we are being discriminated against!!!!
we are getting pulled over and being harassed for doin absolutely nothin .........

awww, poor old hoons beng discriminated against... are you ####ting me? go and have your cry on boost croozin with the other street racing losers.

what's the problem anyway? If you don't race or drop burnouts, you won't get your car impounded. simple, isn't it? nothing to worry about unless you're one of these deadshits who go around doing that sort of thing as if it proves something. Its automotive small man syndrome...

If you hang around late at night in areas where these dickheads go to street race or smoke 'em up as they leave the carpark, you choose to associate yourself with these idiots - you can't blame the cops for thining you're all the same. And you pretty much are...

Fact is, even if you are one of the very few at those kind of places who aren't doing the wrong thing, you are still contributing to the problem - without the crowd to 'impress' the hoons wouldn't be doing half as much ####.

Don't like getting hassled by the cops? You're much less likely to get pulled over driving to the beach on the weekend for example, than loitering around carparks and so on with heaps of other hoons till all hours of the morning. Your choice. You put yourself in the situation - and you know what's going to happen.

nice one Harry!

the poor d1ckheads are gonna have a cry because they're not allowed to be a public menace? puhleese...

how about i smoke em up in the middle of an intersection with YOUR family in an oncoming car - lets see what you have to say about that.

build a car to attract attention and that's what you'll get - attention.

I never once said that hooning was right ....i totally agree with hoon plates !!and getting these losers off the road!!!....as i have said did you read the posts....everyone was saying get the dick head tosers "hoons" off the road and allow more responsibly car enthusiasts enjoy their right to be able to have a hobby and a passion in cars.......read it again if you must!!!...

why the hell would i get on datsun1200.com and say hey follow me all you hoons lets get the cops off our arse....are you sh*tting me ?????

man give me some credit.....again it is about u and me being portrayed as criminals on the road..........

again yes totally agree with anti hooning laws but it has been taken to far to the point where these losers being idiots have taken away our rite to do something we enjoy....

i also agree about the fact that if you behave yourself you will be left alone!!!! i have NEVER been booked or hassled ONCE!!!!!!!!!! BUT i have seen numerous episodes on ACA about the bullshit that boostcruising is talking about.....NOT everyone is a hoon...that is what this is about!!!

for god sake i own a dato how can i be a raving lunatic hoon??????
i am simply a car enthusiast.....as all of you are!!!!!!

You completely missed the point of that topic on boostcruising. They were complaining about the way a current affair presents car enthusiasts, and how they present ALL of them as hoons which is just simply not the case. There are some idiots on boostcruising, but the vast majority of people on boostcruising are not idiots and generally so called "hoon" antics are discouraged.

These car parks you speak of, I can guarantee you that its the majority of people that are doing the right thing, while there are a couple of people that wreck it by doing skids, burnouts and doughnuts and the like.

You might also want to have a look at this topic, about how an r33 skyline driver had his car impounded because according to the cops he was street racing, when he in fact was keeping a constant speed of 100 km/h (the speed limit) and just driving normally.

More and more innocent car enthusiasts are getting done by the cops when it is evident that they have next to no knowledge about cars, with defects and the like.

The thing is with the media's constant negative portrayal of car enthusiasts the general public is going to start to think alike. Being a car enthusiast will mean you are an outlaw in the eyes of everyone, the car modification industry will die off and many people will lose their jobs.

I do not sympathise with hoons. People who do the wrong thing deserve what they get. But when somebody gets punished for something they werent doing, or gets defected for something that is perfectly legal I believe I have a right to stand up and make a noise.
