i have read through the tech articles about the different ways of turbocharging an a12 but i am stuck on which way to go, blow-through or draw through. can anyone shed some light on the subject and possibly suggest the best way to go about it?

Ok good start by reading the tech articles. They have many years of datsun1200.com knowledge. May I recommend you now use the search button to the left and read many of the threads on your desired topic. In doing so, you will realise your question has answers from many sides and is impossible to come to a conclusion except to oneself's opinion.

power=money.

With the turbo, you risk burning out pistons, blowing head gaskets, overheating issues.

Can you afford to fix all of these things?

I'm not being a smartass, we've all been in a similar position to you, wanting to get more power for free. My experiences tell me that there is no such thing as easy or cheap power.

Turbo'ing an Aseries would be almost as expensive as fitting another engine.

If you could find an L13 or L14 block, you could fit it up with L18 gear to increase power.

Turbo's, especially homebrew installations, mean regular downtime fixing things.

Go an L-series or an A-15.

Costs come in all forms.
a. parts
b. labour
c. on-going maintenance
d. certification/registration
e. petrol costs
f. insurance costs
g. wife/gf leaving you costs

There's more to a conversion than just the cost of the parts and conversion.

Good Luck deciding,
Chris

to save this becoming a "blow thru versus draw thru" argument again - my advice is to follow phunk's advice.

read up on people's experiences and decide for yourself which you feel is better.

im goin draw thru, ive got a 32/36 webber, t28 turbo, mitsubishi intake plenum bolting up to the a12

the a12 is basic to turbo, all ive done is put the 1400 head on to lower compression, cam to suit turbo and completly moded the ignition so that i can run as much fuel and air that i can force in. ive takin some piks on my mates digital camera and i will throw them up when i get a chance
