datsunb120- gone a bit quiet there, how is the project coming along? any updates?

Since everyone else is still here- has anyone seen an A-series produce the 155 odd flywheel kW required to get a 800kg car (wet wt+light driver) into the 12 second bracket?

i'm aiming for 150 flywheel kW with a lumpy twin cam head on an 10.0:1 A14 bottom end, a TF035HM turbo pushing about 10psi, fuel and ignition management and individual throttles.

and no, i don;t want to hear about 10.0:0 CR and boost. it's all about swirl and squish.

that said, that's a pretty complete A14 in anyone's opinion.

150 flywheel kW out of an A12 with a blow thru weber and not even elec ignition is just...well...not gonna happen.

you also need a lot of torque to run fast times too, power isn't everything. torque is responsible for your performance beyond half track.

Just to give those with A-series hope my cousin and uncle built a A14 for a bloke. It had forged pistons, forged rods, shotpeened cranks all balanced. My cousin did the head and it was extreemly modified. It had all custom manifolding with a supercharger and it ran a 12.8 1/4mile. This is no ordinary engine though. The pistons and rods alone would be near $3000+$1500 for the head+ etc + etc. All up he would of spent $8000 or possibly more. Sure its different, very different. But some people have much too much money. It would have been easier to convert it to something else to run those times whilst still been reliable.

Be happy if it runs a 14 odd quater. 15sec in 1200 would be awesome fun. 16s even are fun ,even at the higher side.

Get on a circut & get low times. Thats what racing is all about. But lets no argue about that.
What i think is funny is that an A series running 14s 15s or 16s
I just want to see the looks on como wankers faces when you beat them.
Your average stock commo o xr6-8 all run in the 15s
Good datsun 1200 $2000
Strong Aseries $2-4000
The look on a ginos face when you drag off his commo or ford thats on hire purchace & cant aford to spend anymore on it to go faster Priceless

^^^^^^^^Thats it
Dont look for a quater mile monster in a 1200 unless running something else(rotor,ca etc) 14,15,16sec dattos are quicker than most new show off cars for 1/8 of the price plus it will out handle nearly everything with a little modification. It also has a much quicker 0-80-100km/h than most of these new 14sec cars which is all that counts on the street keeping it semi-legal.

Yes coup it wold be funny to c gino get cut
being beat by a 1200 ive even got alot to learn my car may have some decent goodies on it but it all comes down to my drivig ability ive never raced a 1/4 mile so i think gino will beat me 4 now and as freak said alot of $$ to be spent to get good times and even reliability can come into play to compete ive already spent 1300 $ on my 120y but i was lucky toscore that set up but i will spend at least 3000 $ on the engine so it will be a good little sleeper

They say a picture tells a thousand words.

Shame the only one I can see to do with you and your engine, belongs on an adult site. [Edit: Boostcruising.com also]

I would love to be proved wrong. There is only one way to do that
