hey guys, sorry to dig this one up again as it's been mentioned before.... but i'm looking at replacing the bush that holds the steering column, as my steering wheel displaces from it's axis (i.e. not the typical play, but vertical and horizontal play)

how hard is this bush to change?, and where would i get the replacement?, or does someone have a part number that i could get it from nissan

my steering wheel was doin the same thing,
my bro works for nissan, and he got me the bush but i dont have part no.
it was a rubbr bush with like a nylon sleeve in it, and also a metal bastrd with a few holes and slots in it.i couldnt figure out where the metal one went so i didnt bother with it, but the rubber one didnt quite fit all the way in so i had to chop it in half and stick about 2cm into column.
may be a bit dodge, but it solved the prob, and its been tight as a tiger ever since.

I had the same problem with my column, I looked up the part number and ordered one from my mate at Nissan,but the problem is the parts book I believe is wrong as the top bush is not a seperate replaceable item but is bonded to the top nut.
I also tried to fit this new bush but one look and there was no way this would fit without severe hacking.
Take of your wheel and remove the circlip and using a small chissel and remove the slotted nut anti clockwise will show what I am saying.

there wasnt much left of my bush when i was done.
had to take off wheel and dig all the old sh1t out of the column(which took yonks)
and after all that there was a metal sleeve with a little lip on it stuck in top of column.
i had to decrease diameter of rubber bush and shorten it.
quite a mess

anyone had more success with this???

Mate i had the same problem about a year ago when my old ute was up for rego, went to nissan and they couldn't help me, tried to fimd something similar from the hardware store, but with no luck, so needing it done so it could pass rego, i picked up some cir-clips (you'll need a few as some warp) took off the old bush using it as a stencil cut two semi-circles out of a wine cork, oiled them up and pushed them into place. No Dramas after 6 months of driving cork still hasn't disintergrated. Again prob only a temporary solution but i needed it done.

Do a search for "steering column" and some diagrams should come up in my album.

I got a replacement from nissan, ~$40 which I thought was a bit rich, although I found it easier than spinning up my own!

Take a sample, I had no problems, If the packet turns up in the shed, I will post a Part Number.

This in from my B120 parts book (75-79). But the H10 part number suggests it is from the B110.

If I'm not mistaken, our north american 1200s with collapsable column use a ball-bearing right underneath the wheel.
