Own a datsun sunny sedan! Have an opportunity to buy a 1500 out of a vanette ot a 1400 out of a sunny station wagon! Which motor has more power? WHich motor is better in general?

Im assuming that the 1400 from the sunny wagon will fit straight into my sunny sedan (1200)????Will anything have to be modified?

Also, the 1200 has extractors! Will these bolt straight up to the 1400 and/or 1500?

horsepower-wise the 1500 is more powerful than a 1400 and both engines will fit in your sunny with very, very, very little or no modification.remember that sunnys came with the 1200(a12) as well as 1400(a14) and 1500(a15),so the engines will fit as factory. my sunny has a 1500 out of a vanette.fit in without any modification at all.the only thing is that the 1500 exhaust is thicker than the 1200 so i have 2 change in exhaust system.but it runs fine with the 1200 exhaust.generally 2 me both the 1400 and 1500 are great.both put out a fair amt. of horsepower and torque and are very strong engines.the extractors should be able 2 bolt up to the 1400/1500 engine without trouble.hope that answers your question.

sunny1046, the a14 actually has more power, the a12 and a15 both have 69hp, but i dont think it matters, the a15 has more torque. as for the extractors, they WILL bolt up i have a12 extractors on my ute ive done the exact conversion as u, the only mod may be that u need to swap your alternator bracket, well idid but i only did it because my fan belt wasnt long enough to have the alternator under the exhaust.

nuh-uh bro,if u check in the tech section, there are specs for all 3 of these engines.there is no way in hell that the a12 and a15 have the same power.it doesn't make sense.
a12-69hp
a14-78hp
a15-81hp
go 2 the section and click on engines.u will see a10,a12,a12a,and a14 and a15.click on a12 and a14 and a15...u'll c

I heard that the 1400 motors are allot better than the 1500 as they rev allot harder but also have more hp??not too much fuss anyway, either is better than the current 1200!

I also heard the head on the a15 differs from a12 a14! Im hoping the extractors form my a12 bolt up to either!

In terms of cooling, im sure I would need to change my radiator? the currect a12 radiator I have is very clean, it may do the job! I was also told that gemini radiators fit?

if i'm not mistaking the a14 and a15 heads are similar in that the ports are oval-shaped.you don't have 2 change the radiator.i'm still carrying my original a12 radiator and engine cools perfectly.so you could keep that radiator(keep the car original as possible).btw try 2 get a clutch fan(if the engine doesn't already have one).it has more blades than the normal 4 blade fan and cools better.trust me i know.

The differing in power ratings is because early engines had SAE power vs late ones having DIN power, or something.

basically earier stuff was tested without alternators etc hooked up, later stuff tested as it is in the car.

also, SAE was rumored to mean "Say Anything Exciting"

the a15 has more grunt for the road and is the choice for racers like champion Steve Newing. He had an a14 with the a15 crank which made it an a15 anyway.
The round port a15 was also supposed to be available in the vanette. This would explain 69hp. But the sunny a15 supposedly 82hp. Either way the long stroke is only a gain for the A series especially with a 78 or 79mm bore.

If I take an A15 from a vanette, will I have to change the engine mounts in my sunny?

Also will the sump from the vanette fit? If not will my 1200 sump form my sunny motor fit onto the A15?
