I took my SR20DET Coupe to the local race track tonight (1/8th mile) and was able to run it a few times. It took some trial and error, but finally by the end of the night I figured out how it likes to launch. My best time with lots of wheelspin in 2nd and light easy shifting was very simliar to Andrew's CA18DET time. I was able to work it down to an 8.1 @ 89mph with a pretty quick 1.9 second 60ft time. I was pretty happy with that, but really 1/8th mile is just too short for these cars on street tires (good for V-8's and slicks though!). Just thought I'd share! I might try a 1/4 mile tomorrow night.

Well done Andy the turbo cars definatly have a lot stronger top end. I estimated the CA18 doing around 150kmh over the line pretty close to 90mph. Going off your 1/8 mile time should be good for a mid 11 pass down the quarter.
I had a run against a few V8s with autos and slicks one had run 11.0@ eastern creek and the other 10.3 Both flogged me off the mark but at 3/4 track the datto was starting to real them back in. the 10.3 car was running 7.1 1/8 and the 11.0 car was running 7.6. Good luck In the future.
I hope to take the 1200 to eastern creek for a proper crack at a quarter mile time as its been far to long.

Yeah you can check out my write-up for most of your questions, it'd be a pain to write it up in here again!

I'm anxious to see the quarter mile times today, should be a blast! I know I was also catching some REALLY fast cars at the end of the track too that were running 7's, so a quarter mile is going to be shame for them

Well, all I can say is my car isn't setup well for drag racing, but it's still fun. I couldn't hook up at this track to save my life! I could launch okay but as soon as the clutch was all the way out and I started hitting the boost in 1st it was like hitting a puddle of grease, all the way into 2nd. I had to let off sooo many times on each run just to keep it straight and actually go somewhere so in no way are my times and speeds accurate, but at least I got to run it. I know my car could hit 120+ mph at the end if I could duplicate my run from last night, but oh well.

My best I could muster was a lousy 13.21 @ 115mph....and that was with a crappy 2.3 second 60 foot and 8.9 @ 89mph in the 1/8th mile (last night I ran an 8.1 @ 89mph). Even on this run I was all over the place on/off the gas trying to hook up. The car was definitely faster tonight though, because I was running the same mph but .8 seconds slower in the 1/8th compared to last nights' best run!

I know I can get over 120mph by the end because my first run was a 13.9@110mph, and then I dropped to a 13.21@115mph, since I know I can go almost a full second quicker in the 1/8th, that should put me running somewhere around 122 - 124mph if I ever did get a good run. Just for comparison a built, nitroused, and slick tired Trans Am ran 11.25 @ 122 mph against me on one of the runs, he launched awesome and got a huge jump at the start but once I finally got moving he wasn't pulling on me at all :D

I suppose one day I'll have a rear end built for it that would allow me to throw some slicks on the back but for now I'm good. On my 4th run my clutch started slipping pretty bad so I called it quits for the night since we were 85 miles from home and without a trailer. I think it just got overworked a little, seems to be holding up okay now. It was a fun night though, one day the Datsun will run 11's.

I'd like to race some of these 11/12 second V-8 cars from like a 30 - 50 mph roll and see what happens when their slicks aren't helpin as much. I liked seeing that low 11 second Trans Am not get any further away from me...

Oh, I also forgot to say that on the way home I got 33.2 miles per gallon!

Of course I had a mix of maybe 6 gallons of 93 octane, 1/2 gallon of C-16, and 3 gallons of C-12 so of course I'm going to get great mileage with that good of gas, but I didn't expect this! Awesome!!!

Oh yeah I may not have run what I wanted, but I was still the fastest import at the track

Pretty good MPH flat 12's high 11's with that kinda mph once you get it hooking up. What kind of clutch did you end up using behind your Sr?? Is it a button or organic single plate?the organics tend to heat up pretty bad with a lot of abuse (hard shifting) even my button can start feeling a bit weird after a few really hard Launches. A twin clutch would be the ultimate but way too expensive.
cheers Andrew

It's a SPEC Stage 2 clutch; single plate sprung hub design that uses a full Kevlar pressure plate. After I had already bought this clutch I found out that a lot of SR guys were having problems with them. Hopefully a bit of driving normal will bring it back to full operation.

I would LOVE to hook up and show these guys what's up by running 13's and then swap on a set of slicks and hit 11's, that'd just be too fun! I already play with everyone by leaving my exhaust cutout closed and keeping her quiet the first couple runs....NO ONE SEES IT COMING! Just like I like it
