hi
i am trying to sort out a conversion that suits my power v cost been reading through past threads. The CA coversion is looking good for power i found a article in which the bloke said he got it done for 4K. Given that he got a few thing on the cheap and he (presumably) got some one to paint it is 5K a good budget? given that i send 1K on a aftermarket ECU
thanx mark

should get you there cause you dont have to do the diff cause the standard diff can handle the torque from the CA. keep in mind that getting a front cut engine will save some costs because you can use the hyraulic clutch assemblie, radiator ect ect. the costs that arnt taken into account are things like a K&N filter($100) flush the radiator if needed - shock inserts, scheme and balance flywheel, new suspension bushes, custom swaybar(whiteline in sydney does them $250) ect ect. then breaks, R31 fuel tank and pump, new fuel lines lists endless!! we budgeted for 6 thousand. hope this helps. based on a ute conversion. what car its it?

i dont think the sway bar clears the CA18 sump - it doesnt the SR20's in the ute might be different in the coupe. and that coupe is kev rowleys - he was most prob the first to do the fuel injected turbo conversion in australia so he engineered everything himself even calibrated the CA18 harness to the 1200 harness. hes in brisbane and sells kits to do the conversion and estimation for everything its about 6 - i think that excludes the engine and box.

I'm just hitting $14K for mine, that's rebuilding the entire car from scratch and doing most of the work with myself and my mates. That includes r31 lsd diff, microtech lt10s, rebuilt ca18, rb20 box, coil overs, full autometer dash, new paint etc. Still about $4K to get it on the road. Its an expensive exercise hopefully it will be worth it....

theres a basic conversion rule...

whatever you budget for.....double it...

and whatever time frame you expect to complet it...... double it

this way you wont be dissapointed

good luck

adding onto Ange's gems of advice...

"Whenever you ask someone else to do something, add 50% to the quote and double the time to get it done."

My build cost is now in the mid 30k now I got the CDI unit and external coils etc.

Damn cars I think a drug habit might be cheaper.
