Drag racing is a balance of horsepower, chasis, and reaction time. A million horsepower engine, is no good If you can't transmit it to the ground. Likewise drag slicks wont be much help if you only have 69horsepower at 6000rpms.
it's all relative.

A dyno is just a tuning tool. As long as it is consistant it is doing it's job.
Reaction time is not included in drag racing, the clock doesn't start until you leave. Play it again Sam. . . Enjoying this thread? You might also like to try: reaching 100+ HP in a 1000 coupe?

I've seen this car run at the Durban drags and read the article in the local SA Speed N Sound magazine.
It really does a 13.85sec 1/4 mile (best time) the car looks so stock and original, runs wid 13inch rims even at the drags. its a real sleeper of a car.

Cable Tie,
I agree that something is indeed amiss- could it be your ability to read and absord imformation prior to shooting from the hip? Read what I said again, in particular the sentence with the highlighted word NOT, and perhaps Barts comments following. If you are still in any doubt I'll fax you the dyno sheets if you like. Lets try to keep the cheap shots out of threads in future. By the way that time of yours is very good. to put things into perspective I dug an article out from a 'Motorman' Nov 1972 article on the 1200 SSS and they quote a 1/4 mile time of 18.1 against the standard 1200 of 18.8. You know what I'd like to see.
Some sort of log on here of everyones best 1/4 mile times they achieved. If someone starts a thread and people post there best times/MPH, where it was done and basic vehicle specs (engine, box, diff, tyres etc), it would be an interesting reference. So long as everyone kept all the arguments out of it.

How Is reaction time not a factor? If we are driving identical cars, and my reaction is slower than yours, you'll run a faster time, and beat me.

Even though one car will reach the line first, the times run will be identical, because the timer doesn't start until the beam is broken. So you can sit there for 5 minutes before you leave and then run 14.00. The ET for your pass will be 14.00 and your reaction time will be 5 minutes.
