Guys,

What are your guys opinions on the CA18T Vs the FJ20T when carrying out a conversion to a 1200 ute.

Im looking for some pro's and con's on each choice of motor.......

There has been an ongoing debate regarding the engineering side of the FJ but for this instance assume that both motors can be fully enginered.

Fj will be a harder engine to get engineered as it's a 2L turbocharged motor.

The FJ series are getting pretty old now, they have had the reputation for big horsepower, but you'll find more after market parts are available for the CA18 which I might add goes pretty damn good.

The CA's bottom end is VERY VERY strong which is one massive pro for it.

yeah ill go with that there is heaps and heaps of performance parts for the CA as opposed to the FJ, can buy a kit straight off the shelf to mount the ca18
( minus the gearbox tunnel mods) fj20 will have to make one up yourself
the CA is still a good motor and yes the CA bottom is strong i no a few 1200's with stock bottom ends with over 180rwkw

the fj in standard form has a horrible ecu, and a (in my opinion) average turbo. if you are looking for easy upgrages the CA ecu is tuneable up to quite a high mark and it has bigger OEM turbos that bolt on that are quite cheap to find. it will also fit a lot easier...

IMO the FJ looks meatier & meaner.

Remember the video when the dude called the CA the plasticky, girly motor or something like that.

I have heard that the FJ "because it looks meatier and tougher" weighs down the front end of the ute extremely, resulting in a ridiculously light back end.

I have also heard that it is harder to mount a fron mount intercooler with the FJ due to the limited space....

id go the CA. it is newer than the fj, there are kits to fit it straight in, you wont need to touch the firewall, and because they were released in the silvia, they are easier to both find and get parts for. and there are plenty of upgrades easily available for it.

i'm not a guy so u mite not want my opinion! but id say definetly a CA i've found that it's much less trouble getting a CA engineered than an FJ & much more cheaper bits around for themQuote:
