#1 I need help with my brakes!!
EVL-UTE Posted on: 2005/11/21 9:21
hey guys, ill apoligise now for the long post! Ive finally started to rebuild the ute and im having a little trouble deciding what size master cylinder i should use, and if i should use a booster. Im just running the stanza front end and ive got a vs commodore diff, so im wanting to use the calipers and discs off that for the rear. I spoke to a guy today from hoppers stoppers and he told me i should get a 1 inch master cylinder and run a booster. I dont really want a booster, as i like a nice and firm pedal.
I think ive read every single post about brakes on this website haha and now im more confused!!
So what do u guys think i should use??
Thanks!!

Cant answer your question, but....
I have been looking for a reference for working out caliper ratios and fluid displacement calcs for a while now I'll keep you posted if I find one.
not sure about the size of the commo calipers but I would hazard a guess that they will be pretty poorly matched to the stanza fronts- I'd reckon you would want a proportioning valve for starters.

yeah, the calipers actually arnt that big. i was going to get a proportioning valve anyways cus i got a feeling the rears will lock up easily. Does anyone else have any ideas?

Try a 7/8" tandem without the booster and see how the pedal feels
Commdore rear piston size is 1 1/2"

Should work OK......Mitsubishi Pigma ran the same caliper as a commy on the back with a 7/8 master

thanks dattoman! Would you happen to know (or anyone for that matter) if there is a master cylinder that size that will bolt on without much of a hassle. such as one from a 240z, 260z or any other nissan with a 7/8 master cylinder??
