Weren't the older A/C units made for different gas & not suitable for the current type? I think the old type was a lot denser. Anyone know anymore?

I think that the older 'compressors' were made for the R12 refrigerant, so the plan would be to get the mounting hardware & find a late model compressor that will fit, & use that. The rest of the system should still be OK with the newer refrigerants.

I'm using an older compressor on my 200B with the new gas, but I bought the compressor new for very little money. It's starting to get a little noisy these days but still works very well. When it dies, I will use a newer type.

You are correct it was alot denser. Retro fitting an AC system with any of the newer type gases, requires new suitable o-rings to be fitted throughout the system. Some early type compressors dont like 134a but this can be corrected somewhat with different compressor oil. Square shaped honda civics and prelude legends suffer from this alot. You commonly hear them at traffic lights, sounding like the engine is violently rattling but its just the compressor crying for its life.
