Hello 1200 fans,

Does anyone know if a Zed gear box/tranny would fit the a14 engine?? My 5 speed tranny is dying on me (need to rebuild soon)

Help,
Cel

If you mean from a Z car, they are much too large for an A-series engine. The bolt pattern is wrong, too. You'll probably need one from either a B210 (74-77) or 210 (78-81). HTH

Ah!...but what if you replace the bell housing on a Zed/Z tranny with the A engine bell housing tranny...(of course you would have to modify the bolt holes etc..)

yes? no? not making any sense?

Do any A-series trannies have a removable bell housing? ... aside from the automatics?

I saw someone advertising recently Stanza SSS dogleg 5 speeds for A series with the modified bellhousing. $1000 Aus

I already have a celica 5 speed in mine or I would have grabbed one.

I just picked up a 5spd from the junkyard and took it to a gear shop to replace the bearings. My current 5spd is dying too.
I'd like to eventually swap my A12 for an A15, but if these 5spds cant handle an A12 what will happen with the bigger engine?
I wonder if you can take an Aseries bellhousing, cut it to length, weld/bolt on a flat plate with holes to bolt on a different tranny?

I was thinking the same but after a brief look in the shed it seems I'm out of A series gearboxes.
I had 3 so I'm curious to know who's been in my shed. My brother has A series too......might have to go look thru his spare parts bin.
If the A series auto box has a detatchable bellhousing that would be a good place to start. Though they are rare around here
